a week after gallbladder surgery I'm still getting pain under my ribcage and in my back, how long does this go on for?

1-2 weeks: It depends on how bad the inflammation, bleeding was, laparoscopic or not?, Still, in most cases you will go home in 1 -2 days, be in pain the first week, sore the second and then return to activities the 3rd or 4th week. I know a surgeon who had it out and was back at work the next day. Depends on how u deal with pain.

I just had open gallbladder surgery yesterday. Why is my right shoulder and back hurting? The pain is awful. I can't find a comfortable position

Open surgery: Open gallbladder surgery is a fairly major surgery with a lot of pain. It seems unusual that you had major open surgery only yesterday and asking about pain the next day. Significant pain is expected with open surgery and most patients stay in the hospital for a few days after major open abdominal surgery. Contact your surgeon for pain management medications.

After open gallbladder surgery, I've had really bad lower right side back pain and spasms. I mostly slept sitting up after. Can that be the cause?

Maybe: Would need more information. How long ago was the surgery? In the first few weeks after major open abdominal surgery, there sometimes can be some back muscle pains due to abnormal posture while sitting or standing. Try changing positions, stand up more straight, walk more, use local heat on the muscles. See your surgeon to be sure that you are healing properly.

Low back pain: The gallbladder surgery is unrelated to the low back pain. The symptoms that you describe are caused by lumbar spinal stenosis or narrowing of the spinal canal. The narrowing is caused by bulging discs, overgrowth of the ligaments and facet joints. See a neurosurgeon for treatment.

One good thing: About laparoscopic GB removal, besides less pain rely ambulation and return to work. Traditional surgery with large scar takes takes 6 wks to go back to regular work but you can in half the time or even less if you feel like going back to work
