In the first few weeks after major open abdominal surgery, there sometimes can be some back muscle pains due to abnormal posture while sitting or standing. Not typically: By six weeks out from surgery you should be continuing to improve and not developing new symptoms. Back pain in this area could be due to a variety of reasons to include a retained gallstone in your common bile duct or a hematoma or bile collection in the area to gallBladder bed. One good thing: About laparoscopic GB removal, besides less pain rely ambulation and return to work. Traditional surgery with large scar takes takes 6 wks to go back to regular work but you can in half the time or even less if you feel like going back to work
