When are you supposed to know if your baby has a pda?

When are you supposed to know if your baby has a pda?

All have before born: The PDA is part of the normal body parts that will begin to close off after the babies blood oxygen level rises to air breather values. Is it true you aren't supposed to take babies out in public indoor places til they are two months?

Is it true you aren't supposed to take babies out in public indoor places til they are two months?

Not exactly...: Until a baby is 6-8 weeks old, they have not been immunized and they are at higher risk of serious complications if they are exposed to an illness. If they were to get a fever before this age then normal work up would include blood cultures, spinal tap, urine cultures, and hosp for at least 48 hours of IV antibiotics. The recommendation is to avoid areas with high risk exposure to illness... ...Read more

3 yr old in my sons pre school has mumps. Could the teacher (who kisses kids) be a silent carrier of mumps? She is supposed to babysit my son&infant.

3 yr old in my sons pre school has mumps. Could the teacher (who kisses kids) be a silent carrier of mumps? She is supposed to babysit my son&infant.

Unlikely: There is no silent carrier for mumps. There are asymptomatic infections, but even asymptomatic, they develop mumps immunity. I would ask the teacher if she had documentation of 2 MMR vaccines. If she had, it is highly liekly that she is immune to mumps and therefore she cannot infect other persons. Parotid gland swelling occurs with other virus infections, so make sure that it was mumps. ...Read more

I've heard of a medication for babies it's a natural medicine called bebe cal it actually calms your baby to sleep was just interested if any dr knows?

I've heard of a medication for babies it's a natural medicine called bebe cal it actually calms your baby to sleep was just interested if any dr knows?

Not recommended: This medication has Diphenhydramine (benadryl), Chloral Hydrate (a strong sedative) and belladona (a poison)! none of these are recommended for parents to give to their babies! just because a medication is labeled as "natural" does not make it safe, especially for kids! many meds do not go through the fda and have never been tested on children. Do not use this without your doctor's advice. ...Read more

My baby is 2 months and received a shot that is supposed to bring about a fever. How do I best care for her? infant Advil (ibuprofen)? Paracetamol?

My baby is 2 months and received a shot that is supposed to bring about a fever. How do I best care for her? infant Advil (ibuprofen)? Paracetamol?

Comfort care: Vaccines do not always cause fever. If she is more fussy afterwards, she may need a bit more soothing. Since she is 2 months old, you probably know what calms her down when she is fussy. Use these same methods. If she does have a fever, a bath will often bring it down, assuming she enjoys bath time. If you must give her medicine, only use acetaminophen- this is only safe option for infants < 6 mo ...Read more

Can PDA in premature babies effect them in adult hood, even though it was treated?

Can PDA in premature babies effect them in adult hood, even though it was treated?

Depends: The PDA is a structure we all had that permitted efficient heart pumping while we were not using our lungs. It occasionally doesn't close at birth (as expected) and adds to the pumping load. Closing it with meds or surgery is often done to help premi's grow. If it persists into childhood it can be closed electively. Once closed it is not a problem & unrelated to any heart problem i know of. ...Read more
