Followup: Hard to say, multiple possibilities. A simple followup for a recheck would likely be the best route. Sometimes when you take a cast off the area of swelling can shift somewhat, hopefully it is something simple like that. ...Read more

Elevation: You might try elevating your arm above heart (mid-chest) level. On your back this takes a simple pillow under your forearm. Sitting or standing it is practically over your head, although, resting it on the back of a chair or sofa works, or laying your forearm on top of your head. You might also have the cast checked by the doctor to see if it is too tight. This pain should not last long, a day +/-. ...Read more

My son has a hairline break to his wrist and is in a cast he's 11 years old how long will it take to heal?

My son has a hairline break to his wrist and is in a cast he's 11 years old how long will it take to heal?

A month or so.: Kids tend to heal very quickly. The so-called "hairline" fracture describes a fracture that is only minimally displaced and as such is in a good position and typically has good remaining blood supply.
Additionally, the area of the wrist (if this represents a distal radius fracture) is typically very well vascularized and with the type of bone that heals quite quickly.

Good luck! ...Read more

24 days after cast removed (casted 4 weeks) for non-displaced left wrist triquetrum chip fracture, son still has pain during baseball. Is this normal?

Triquetral avulsion: Fractures can take some time for pain to go away. There is not typically a structural issue, it is an avulsion o the tendinous attachment and capsular attachment to the bone. Sometimes after immobilization there is pain with extremes of flexion and deviation, for some of these casting is not used as stiffness can be a source of pain. Gentle ROM and time and therapy if needed typically suffices ...Read more

My 14 yo son just fractured his wrist. It's a closed fracture of the distal radius. Will the cast be a short cast? Or cover the whole arm?

My 14 yo son just fractured his wrist. It's a closed fracture of the distal radius. Will the cast be a short cast? Or cover the whole arm?

Wrist fracture: This depends on the severity and stability of the fracture. If it is a displaced, unstable type fracture that requires a reduction (manipulation to straighten the bone), a long arm cast (above elbow to knuckles) is typically used for immobilization. If the fracture is non-displaced and stable, a short arm cast (below elbow to knuckles) is often acceptable. ...Read more

My son is 6 months old and likes to fall asleep with something soft. When is he able to sleep with something to sooth him? He can roll, sit up, crawl

When he can stand: We lose about 100 kids a year in the US to suffocation in bed linen, bumpers, soft toys when they fall asleep on/in them. When a baby has the physical capability of getting away from these things with ease they can have them in their bed. Until then, it is a deadly choice. Don't offer it and he will adapt. ...Read more

My son (3 years old) had his tonsils removed 6 days ago. He is not eating and has pains in his right hand and left knee. Not sleeping due to pain?

My son (3 years old) had his tonsils removed 6 days ago. He is not eating and has pains in his right hand and left knee. Not sleeping due to pain?

Possibly: He is having trouble sleeping because of pain, but it seems unlikely that the hand and knee pain is related to the tonsillectomy. I would try some otc pain relievers. If those do not help he should see his doctor for the pain. If he is not eating because of throat pain, call the ENT who did the surgery. If he is not urinating enough he may need to be checked for dehydration. ...Read more
