Cysts are common: Cysts are very common, and many people will have them removed by a general surgeon. this is technically very easy and can be done under local anesthesia in the clinic or in the operating room. The most common reason to have one removed is because it is bothersome or causes pain. Healing after surgery usually occurs within 2 to 3 weeks with minimal discomfort or pain. ...Read more

I have a pilar cyst the back of my head and for 10 year it has been no big deal but the last 3 day it has become sore headaches like got a pulse?

? occipital pinching: A cyst on the back of the head can swell and contact a multitude of nerves and blood vessels in the posterior neck. One of the common events is that the cyst pushes on the occipital nerve root (which has nerves running up and over the head to the forehead) and the adjacent occipital artery. This can cause the exact symptoms you have having. If not improved in a day or so, see your PCP. ...Read more

Woke up having a visual aura. I had a cyst removed from my scalp yesterday with stitches. Scalp very tender and painful. Could that have caused aura?

Aura=a mental&brain: Behavior/symptom, not a physical body alteration which any current technology or physician can measure or track in currently available ways. Thus all about educated guesses based on limited understanding of embodied Soul↔Mind↔Brain↔Body creatures sending >million orders/sec brain to body with similar feedback. Thus most symptoms&events=educated guesses. Individual history, diagnostic skills = key. ...Read more

Had a breast u/s last wk and result was only fluid filled cyst. Do these go away over time? It's little tender when pressed but not painful. About 2cm

Fluid filled cyst: In the breast can definitely resolve on its own over time. Avoiding caffeine is often recommended to facilitate resolution of a cyst, but is not always necessary. If it does not resolve, it can be aspirated (fluid drawn out with a needle) but this is not necessary unless it is very painful or infected. Warm compresses and or NSAIDs (ibuprofen, naproxen) may relieve any related discomfort. ...Read more

See a doctor.: I think all the bumps on your head are cysts. The one that is soft and tender is likely to be infected. That one surely needs to be checked out and treated or possibly drained out. Please go to a doctor to take care of it. Headaches are probably a different issue and your doctor should also evaluate you and also treat it. ...Read more

I have a lump on the right side on the back side of my knee, its a little tender to the touch with a little pain down my leg. Could it be a cyst?

Possible Baker's...: Cysts behind the cysts (Baker'r cysts) are common and can cause sudden pain and discomfort. IF you palpate it you may start using warm compresses three times a day, and if not allergic taking anti inflammatory medication (like ibuprofen). If not better or worse make sure you get seen by your PCP soon. ...Read more

I have has some sort of nose sore for three years I was told it was a tiny cyst and it was removed but it came back. I have tried vas, fucidin, poly?

See Dermatologist.: Some cysts may recur. I do not think vaselin or "fucidin" will resolve it. My concern is to rule out some kind of skin cancer on your nose. Let a dermatologist see you. ...Read more

Painful swelling behind knee. Ultrasound did not detect a bakers cyst or anything else, but its painful and tender, especially in the surrounding area?

Still could be Baker: If it is painful it needs further evaluation. A bakers cyst should easily be seen by ultrasound but sometime the content of the cyst, tissue, synovium, blood, can obscure its deliniation. If x-rays have been ok you may need an MRI but need to consider vascular structures both vein or artery, the posterior knee, cartilage, tumors, etc these are the things to look for. ...Read more

Small bump on back of neck (rt side) dr said was cyst. Experiencing sore neck/throat (rt side) & noticed a small movable bump on throat. Help?!

Probably not related: Small bump on the side of neck could be a lymph node related to sore throat. I would do some OTC meds like Tylenol (acetaminophen) or anti inflammitories. If persistant see your doc. ...Read more

Scans showed cysts in breast and focal fibrocystic change. Is fibrocystic change linked to breast cancer in anyway? Breasts aren't painful or tender.

NO: Fibrocystic breasts as they are now called (not F.C.disease, bc it is not a dse)occur in 50% of women betweenages 25 % 50. Thet are not precancerous unless something called "atypia"shows under the microscope. However, if any new "lump"is felt you need to get checked by your doctor. Hope this answers your question. ...Read more
