See doctor: You need to consult your doctor to find out the cause for your problems. If this is something that happens for the first time in the past few days, it may be a viral infection (including a cold). But if this has been happening for weeks, see your doctor and get treated. If you contracted a cold about 10 days ago and now having these symptoms, one needs to consider a bacterial sinusitis. ...Read more
Severe wheezing: Wheezing is typically heard on expiration - when breathing out. Inspiratory wheezing - wheezing when breathing in - usually occurs with severe asthma. Another sound heard on inspiration is called stridor. Stridor sounds like crowing and indicates obstruction around the vocal cords. Severe airway obstruction in croup or laryngospasm generates stridor. Wheezing occurs further down in the bronchi. ...Read more
Possible stridor..: If there is a high-pitched sound when you inhale, this could be stridor which is caused by a narrowing of the upper airway. You need to see a doctor asap; if you are short of breath, go to the er. If this is stridor, it could lead to upper airway obstruction, which can be life-threatening. Dx with infolding of arytenoids upon inhalation. Worsening Winded/wheezing. Could this be related to undifferentiated connective disease?
Unrelated: To my knowledge, your 3 problems (infolded arytenoids, worsening shortness of breath - assuming you have no stridor which is throat sounds on breathing, & connective tissue disease) are unrelated. Keep your followup appointments, take your meds as directed, & report any changes to your clinician. Also note other physicians' responses to your question: may have more experience w this than I. ...Read more

I have acute bronchitis, from one week I am getting severe wheezing only night times. I am not able to breath properly. I am using forocort inhaler.?
Wheezing w/bronchiti: May have associated reflux, therefore happening at night. Can try ranitidine and or prevecid before bed. Would also elevate head of bed with pillow under mattress (it will help you breathe anyway as compress lungs when lying down). May also be reactive airways due to bornchitis-elevating head of bed helps. F/u w/ doc ...Read more
Airway constriction: With any asthma attack, the airway is constricted, which increases the flow velocity and causes the noise, which we call wheezing. Of course the real problem is the increased work of breathing and decreased oxygenation. Medications open the airway, decreasing the flow velocity, reducing the noise and allowing you to breath easier. ...Read more
Need inhaler: The preferred treatment for relief of asthma symptoms including cough, wheezing, chest tightness is albuterol by inhaler or nebulizer. Avoiding the trigger (smoke, etc) can help and remaining calm will help, but asthma can be serious (life-threatening) and delaying treatment with medications can lead to poor outcomes. ...Read more
I've never had asthma before but I'm in belieze and I've been experiencing a lot of wheezing. Should I try and get an inhaler? If so, what kind?
Wheezing: Beside asthma, bronchitis and other lung or heart diseases can cause wheezing. I would suggest you see a local physician for better diagnosis. In the mean time before you can see a physician, an albuterol inhaler might temporarily relieve wheezing. However you still would need to be seen by a physician so no severe pathologies are missed. Have a safe trip. ...Read more

Uncontrolled Asthma: With established asthma the above symptoms are concerning. Physician needs to re-evaluate asthma control and consider stepping up therapy to including higher dose controller medication. Sleep position doesn't matter. ...Read more

I onli wheeze wen I laughed too much at nite, wen d temperature changes, if I'm having a flu or if d air quality is bad. Do I still need an inhaler?
Absolutely: You describe common triggers of asthma - laughing, temperature change, nighttime, viral respiratory infection & air pollution. Other major triggers are exercise and allergy. If you have these symptoms no more than twice a week and wake up coughing no more than 2x/month then you have intermittent asthma. All you need is a reliever inhaler like albuterol but you should have it for emergencies. ...Read more
Wheeze at the end of a very deep inhale what causes it? Also had a cold last week was left with a bad cough wich is slowly starting to go away.
Wheeze: After a bad cold the airways can constrict (get smaller) or spasm - this can cause a wheeze when you exhale or let your breath out. It should resolve if you do not have a history of asthma. You can take some magnesium glycinate from the health food store and this might help to relax your airway. We use this treatment in the emergency room and hospital. ...Read more

My sister age 16 has insomnia for the first time what should she do to cure it? She doesn't wheeze. She takes an inhaler for asthma and loratadine.
Many reasons: There are many reasons for insomnia. If she is taking Loratadine d, the "d" part can keep people awake. Occasionally antihistamines will also keep people awake. Some asthma inhalers can also keep people awake especially if they are used too often. Call the doctor who prescribed the inhaler for advice. ...Read more
I was prescribed an inhaler by my doctor it seems like my breathing has gotten worse and I start wheezing earlier on in my exercise. Is this normal?
Old addage: "All that wheezes is not asthma". Make sure you trust the diagnosis. Albuterol should help if you have exercise induced asthma. In some cases, responsiveness to albuterol will decrease over time. In these cases, montelukast seems to be a particularly good option (better than in other types of asthma). Keep your physician up to date and thanks for trusting HealthTap. ...Read more
