Why am i wheezing when lying down only?

Why am i wheezing when lying down only?

Wheezing: Wheezing is caused by airway constriction or reactivity and creates a high pitched musical sound during expiration and sometimes during inspiration. This noise in one position may indicate an anatomical change in the configuration of the airway. If your nasal passages are congested, post nasal drip may trigger cough when lying down. Please follow up with your physician. ...Read more

Go to ER....: Your shortness of breath is a concerning symptom as well as your laryngitis which likely represents upper airway inflammation. You may have pneumonia so you need a chest x-ray as well as a sputum culture to diagnose the bacteria responsible for your infection. You may need supplemental oxygen as well as IV antibiotics so you should go to the nearest er asap. Let us know how you do! good luck! ...Read more

My boyfriend was laying down w/ my head on his chest and I could hear wheezing. What does it mean?

Possibilities...: There is a good saying in medicine that says "all that wheezes is not asthma". There is a long list of medical conditions that can cause wheezing including smoking, viral illness, airway obstruction by mucous or a foreign body, heart failure etc. If the problem continues i would encourage you to seek medical attention promptly. ...Read more

Wheezing while laying down. Occasionally bottom of rib on right side hurts. Can't take deep breath. My dr said my lungs sound fine though.?

Could be the ribs...: Ribs can hurt at the cartilage. The ribs actually move at the cartilage. There are joints where different bones meet. Inflammation (irritation, tenderness, pain) there is called costochondritis. For that, Motrin or advil can help. If symptoms persist, then the doctor can do a re-evaluation to look at the x-rays, the lungs, the liver, the gall bladder, and other organs in that area. ...Read more

Trouble breathing while laying down and dizziness. Once sitting up it begins to feel better but continue wheezing and feeling dizzy for an hour after?

Trouble breathing while laying down and dizziness. Once sitting up it begins to feel better but continue wheezing and feeling dizzy for an hour after?

Asthma: Sounds an awful lot like asthma to me - often there is dust or bed mites, or other foreign proteins in bedroom air that triggers an attack. You should carefully wash all your bed linens, bed clothes, but also dust, remove old reading materials, wash your drapes, vacuum under the bed etc. Don't use scented cleaner. An inhaler medication may be indicated, best obtained from your family doc. ...Read more

Depends: Generally, a chronic cough is defined as one lasting more than 8 weeks. The most common causes include post nasal drainage, reflux, and asthma. Depending on the cause, the treatment is different. For example for asthma, inhaled corticosteroids are the mainstay. It's best to see your doctor for testing to determine cause.
