What could it mean if there is a wheeze on oonly one side of lung, which does not improve with ventolin, pf is completely normal, lung is also rattlin?

Needs evaluation: Do you have infection... Fever, cough... Sputum, what color? Blood count?
Why are you on ventolin? Do you have asthma? You say that pulmonary functions (pf) are normal? Might need repeating pf? Are you a smoker? Are you taking other drugs... Bcp? Need arterial blood gas, chest x-ray and/or ct scan? Consult your doctor. Thank you. ...Read more

Lung (Definition)

Deoxygenated blood enters the lungs from the right side of the heart and travels to the lungs. When you inspire, oxygen flows into the lungs, transverses the capilliares and attaches to hemoglobin down a gradient. At the same time, co2 diffuses into the capilaries and is expelled with exhalation. Oxygen rich blood then flows to the left side of the heart and into the ...Read more

See below: I agree, a CT scan would be the next thing to check. Also, it's possible it's not your lung. It may be musculoskeletal. And it may be completely unrelated to your wheezing. ...Read more

2 weeks of flu and really bad cough one week of antibiotic i still have wheezing feeling in my chest before I cough my air way don't feel clear help?

Cough: Usually, antibiotics are not indicated in the flu. The persistant cough and wheezing are the hallmarks of a viral infection. Sometimes, these viral infections can become super-infected with bacteria, and in the lungs, this can be pneumonia and/or bronchitis. Best to re-visit you doctor for a work up of the problem. ...Read more

For about a yr I have had a wheezing sensation in my back and it varies in location. Pcp ruled out lungs. What else could it be?

Wheezing: Wheezing would be a lung phenomenon so it's hard to guess what else it could be — particularly if it's not localized. Probably one of those things you would have to show you doctor while it's happening (and that can be tough if it's intermittent). May be worth a second opinion if it's troublesome or worsening. Hope this helps! ...Read more

I just notice than when I twist my body a sound like "wheezing" or "hissing" comes deep from my body, specially with the moth open. I guess is from the lungs. Is that normal??

I just notice than when I twist my body a sound like "wheezing" or "hissing" comes deep from my body, specially with the moth open. I guess is from the lungs. Is that normal??

Exam needed: An examination is needed to determine where the sound is coming from. Sounds come from turbulent movement of fluid or air. Movement of air in the gut or expelling of air trapped in the lungs from asthma or COPD (smoking is the common cause of COPD) can cause all sorts of sounds. Gut noise without pain/symptoms typically is not a sign of problems. Wheezing from lungs is not normal, and needs exam. ...Read more

I have a weird wheezing sensation in my back for months. I know for sure it's not my lungs. Any ideas. It's just a sensation. Lungs r clear?

Hard to tell: It's hard to tell what a "weird wheezing sensation" might be. An evaluation can help, because the doctor can listen to the heart and lungs while the patient is breathing in and out, and while the patient is lying down, sitting up, or standing up. Wheezing is the noise made when air flows out of the lungs, traveling through bronchi and bronchioles when they have mucus or some other obstruction. ...Read more

I have been wheezing, short of breathe and a peak flow of 200 I'm 43 years old and my dr said my lungs sound clear what could be causing this?

Some lung issue: Possible reactive airway disease, variant asthma, or some pulmonary issue, causing inflammation or mucus production that is affecting the tubes in your lungs, thus causing a wheeze (the sound made of air flowing through a constricted (usually clogged/inflamed) bronchial tube. The wheeze may come and go, and the dr. May have listened when it was absent. If this persists, get another eval. Good luck. ...Read more

When someone has active wheezing from asthma are their lung funtion lower than their normal?

Yes: It goes the other way around. A person who is wheezing from asthma has partial obstruction to the airflow when he is breathing, and therefore will get lower than normal results on lung function testing. The testing measures the lung problem, and thus shows lower function when the lung is functioning lower. ...Read more

Wheezing while laying down. Occasionally bottom of rib on right side hurts. Can't take deep breath. My dr said my lungs sound fine though.?

Could be the ribs...: Ribs can hurt at the cartilage. The ribs actually move at the cartilage. There are joints where different bones meet. Inflammation (irritation, tenderness, pain) there is called costochondritis. For that, Motrin or advil (ibuprofen) can help. If symptoms persist, then the doctor can do a re-evaluation to look at the x-rays, the lungs, the liver, the gall bladder, and other organs in that area. ...Read more
