Wheezing Coughing Up Phlegm
Smoker I've been coughing up phlegm tinged with blood at times I had a CT scan it states that their is cystic changes and a parenchymal density lung?
Parenchymal density: Is a very nonspecific term, unfortunately. It could mean anything from scar to mass to pneumonia to collapse of a small lung segment. Without the images to review, it is difficult to determine. Likewise, there are both acute and chronic causes of cystic changes. The nonspecific report verbiage needs to be interpreted in conjunction with the images themselves and your clinical picture. ...Read more

I have had a productive cough for 2 weeks and I sometimes wheeze...I also smoke. Is this simply from smoking or something more?
Have had a non-productive cough off and on for about 2 weeks. Not better or worse, and no other symptoms. Not wheezing. What should I do?
See doctor...: This could be a sign of bronchospasm which can be treated with bronchodilator inhalers. Some people have coughing instead of wheezing as a sign of bronchospasm. Other possibilities for your cough include post-nasal drip, GERD, bronchitis, etc. The only way to get diagnosed and treated is to see your doctor. You have been coughing long enough!!! Good luck!!! ...Read more
I've had a non productive cough for a couple months along with wheezing. This happens more prominently at night and early mornings. Why??
Possibly reflux: A nonproductive cough may be caused by environmental triggers, medication, post nasal drip, or reflux, among others. Cough in the evening may occur from gastric acid reflux after eating a large meal, especially if alcohol is consumed. While lying down at night, the cough may get worse and may last into the morning. This remains true even in the absence of reflux symptoms. ...Read more
Only one: If your symptoms go away with an antihistamine only (benadryl, claritin, (loratadine) zyrtec or allegra) not any combination pill then this is due to allergies & you should remove all fragrances, aerosols, smoke, candles, in skin care & home. If one of these does not work in an hour & your cough persists you MUST see a doctor to find out the cause. It could be something serious. Naturally, if you smoke, quit. ...Read more

Get a check up.: Extremes of ages are always susceptible to contracting diseases, especially the communicable ones. Quit smoking: Your symptoms are all coming from your smoking habit. So it's important to work with your pcp to find other alternatives to stop smoking, and keep your lungs clear. The irritation from the tobacco, and the particles landing on the tissues of the lungs is irritating it, causing the cilia lining the bronchioles to want to remove it. Plus there's a carcinogenic potential with the byproducts, tar landing on it. ...Read more

See doctor: You need to consult your doctor to find out the cause for your problems. If this is something that happens for the first time in the past few days, it may be a viral infection (including a cold). But if this has been happening for weeks, see your doctor and get treated. If you contracted a cold about 10 days ago and now having these symptoms, one needs to consider a bacterial sinusitis. ...Read more

Infection usually: Any infection that causes irritation to the respiratory system will cause a productive cough with sputum. It is your body responding to the infection.
