What's To Expect From My Nephrology Appointment
Kidney doctors.: Nephrology is the study of the kidney: its structure, its function, and its diseases. Many causes: Hormone problems, sometimes related to infections, cancer, lung, heart or liver problems can cause the kidneys to retain extra water and dilute the sodium in the blood. Sometimes medications, or extreme drinking of water can lower sodium, too. Keep in mind that high sugar, cholesterol and protein levels can make the sodium seem low when it is really normal. ...Read more
Analgesic nephropath: Hi dalton1, if you mean analgesic nephropathy then it depends on how damaged your kidneys were and whether you are still taking analgesic medications. Ibuprofen itself can cause kidney injury but when mixed with codeine, tylenol, (acetaminophen) aspirin, etc, you can have severe injury. If your kidneys are working fine and you no longer take analgesia, then there is a good chance no further injury will occur. ...Read more

3 y/o had VUR w/ scarring. Now VUR clear & kidneys measure 6.4cm. Refered to Nephrology. Can't get appt for couple months. What possible issues?
This is just:
"a thought" since the answer should come from your child's Pediatrician but I would guess the kidneys are a bit "small" for your baby's age and follow-up after the VUR with nephrology is a common. And nowadays "STANDARD OF CARE" No "emergency" (my opinion)
Hope this helps and good luck!

I have an IUD but I haven't been able to feel the string for about a month. Should I be worried? I have an appointment for next week.
Don't worry: It is not uncommon for IUD strings to curl under cervix or into OS (cervical opening). It is not common, but not impossible for IUD to become completely expelled without patient's knowledge. I would recommend being seen sooner to confirm that your IUD is still in uterus. ...Read more

Communication: In this day & age, we don't listen & we don't check to find out if you understand what we tried to convey or if we even understood you in 1st place. Another facet of communication is medication adherence. Did you take meds as directed. Did you tell us about all meds & dietary supplements? Also we can't overemphasize need to communicate your health goals. Maybe you don't want more testing/procedure ...Read more
