What's The Normal Follicle Count For Fertile Woman
What is normal antral follicle count at day 9 for a 38yrs woman? Without fertility treatment? Thanks
Wrong day: The afc is done on cycle day 3, not 9. ...Read more
Varies: Highly variable by age and whether one is on medicine at the time. A total count (both ovaries) great than 15 is nice to see, with pcos often more than 25. It is best done in the first 5 days of the cycle. A total count less than 7-8 is concerning. But it will vary every month considerably. ...Read more
I am cycle day 8 after a failed IVF but still bleeding light. Is this normal. Will my fertile days be the same this month? Can I have mtple follicles
See your RE: You need to see the doctor who did your ivf to evaluate the follicles which remain going into this next cycle. Generally, the number of days of fertility are the same, but the days that they occur may change. If you are going to try to conceive on your own this month, I recommend an ovulation predictor kid. They are quite accurate. You are still high risk and need to see your OB or re. ...Read more
Follicle count is 8 in all. Everything else is normal. Estrogen is low though. Does this mean I don't ovulate or I just ovulate not viable eggs? I'm23
Progesterone: Ovulation can be tested by doing a blood Progesterone test half way through the 2nd part of the menstrual cycle -- the luteal phase. Schedule a visit with an Obgyn and this test can be scheduled. Conclusions regarding ovulation can not be made from the information you mentioned in the question ...Read more
I had an afc at day 9 (i am 38, and not on fertility treatment). I had 8 antral follicles on l ovary and 9 on r ovary and a big one ready for ovulation. Is this normal? I thought afc was done day 3.
Normal ovulation: The afc is normally done at day 3 to see how many follicles are beginning to develop, in order to compare to the number that develop closer to ovulation...For this reason, another ultrasound is usually done after the lh surge, which is detectable on ovulation strips. This is normally done during fertility treatment to assess how the woman is progressing towards ovulation. ...Read more

Ultrasound scan showed density in left ovary, doc mentioned a ruptured follicle but it's nothing to worry about? Does this affect fertility?
I have been diagnosed with PCOS and the GP said I have multiple immature follicles but no cysts I know this will affect my fertility as my periods are irregular but I want to know if I still have a chance of ovulating even with immature folicles?
Definitely: PCOS is a fairly common problem these days. However, there are a lot of mimickers which are treated completely diff. First confirm dx with ObGyn and/or endocrinologist who can ideally work together and really increase your chances. The underlying issues need to be addressed. The prog for preg with docs who are experienced treating this are actually pretty good. Most import is right docs working togeth ...Read more
How reliable cd3 antral follicle count is in determining the ovarian reserve and likelihood of achieving natural pregnancy? Does it vary from month..
4 months ago CD4 FSH was 17mlu/l.This month: antral follicle count on cd3:right ovary-18 follicles. Left ovary:lots of follicles. Which one to rely on?
Probably preamtral: This does sound very confusing. I would have the fsh level performed either on day two or three of a subsequent cycle and also an amh level performed any time during the cycle. Hopefully the original fsh of 17 was in error. ...Read more

What other drugs besides Clomid (clomiphene) are used to get a woman pregnant? My wife is on 100 mg of Clomid (clomiphene) and she ovulates normally. If Clomid (clomiphene) doesn't work, will she be given a different fertility drug?
FSH Injections, IVF: If Clomid (clomiphene) alone does not work, adding IUI (intrauterine insemination) can improve Clomid (clomiphene) pregnancy rates. The next step after that would be to take fsh or injectable fertility drugs. Using these drugs in an ivf cycle is safest, but injections can also be combined with iui. Please speak with your doctor about the pros and cons of these options in your situation. Good luck! ...Read more
20 year old girl free testosterone level is 2, 0 is it normal? (2, 6-5, 5 pg ml written as norma for fertile woman)
Probably normal: Hi. That's probably normal. I'm not sure what you're really trying to find out. Why did some doctor measure your free testosterone? Usually that's to work up hirsutism (male pattern hair growth) and/or irregular/absent periods. If it was for a low libido workup, it may be an issue. Are you cycling normally? Free testosterone will vary with your cycle, and repeating it may be normal. Need more info ...Read more
Can oral birth control pills permanently affect a womans fertility after stopping it? My wife still hasn't had a normal period months after stopping.
No, not at all: The oral contraceptive pills will not change your fertility as this is an old myth from the days when the higher dose pills were used extensively. Patients who had irregular anovulatory menstrual flows were often placed on the pill to "regulate" their cycles as young women. Then when it was stopped to get pregnant, their periods went back to their previous irregularity and the pill was "blamed". ...Read more

No, unless. . .: We get all the biotin we need in the normal diet. Any touted benefits of additional biotin are not well-proven. If a person was so profoundly malnourished as to be low in biotin, then feritlity is decreased, but just fixing the biotin deficiency, in that case, would not alone restore fertility. Biotin supplements can cause some SERIOUS constipation in some folks (like moi!) ...Read more
