Combination of meds: Yes, they can. However, it's best to reduce the dose of citalopram to 20mg. citalopram and wellbutrin are in different classes thus they have different mechanisms of action. You can liken it to cream AND sugar in your coffee. ok with one or the other but maybe better with both. I do not recommend taking Phentermine under any circumstances. pls make sure to discuss all of this with your provider. ...Read more
Tried celexa, made anxiety worse, sister tried it, same reaction. She had success w/ wellbutrin said it works differently, could this help me?
NO: Usually people with anxiety D/O's are more sensitive to side effects. Antidepressants that modulate anxiety (Wellbutrin is not one of them) need to be started and up titration at much smaller dosages. I.e. My doc has me on celexa and Wellbutrin XL for my anxiety. Is this a good combination? I've read that Wellbutrin can sometimes increase anxiety?
Work closely: This combo requires your provider to stay very involved since there is a higher risk for seizure side effects. But, if that's not a problem - it might be effective. Almost all psych meds seem to have as a possible side effect the very symptom complained of. It's a reason I urge trying talk therapy 1st - adding meds only if needed. Think about it, but don't just stop! Withdrawal's a real concern! ...Read more
