What's The Difference Between Wellbutrin And Celexa
Mechanism of action:
Celexa (citalopram) is a antidepressant that works mainly on the serotonin metabolism
wellbutrin (bupropion) works in the dopaminergic circuit.
They can be combined for added effect or decrease of side effects of serotonin related antidepressants such as decresed libido. ...Read more
Citalopram is a ssri medication used to treat anxiety and depression disorders, it's also used to treat ptsd and ocd. It takes 4 to 6 weeks to be fully effective. Side effects; sedation, minor temporary stomach issues, delayed orgasm in males and rarely weight gain. It is ...Read more
Combination of meds: Yes, they can. However, it's best to reduce the dose of citalopram to 20mg. Citalopram and wellbutrin (bupropion) are in different classes thus they have different mechanisms of action. You can liken it to cream AND sugar in your coffee. Ok with one or the other but maybe better with both. I do not recommend taking Phentermine under any circumstances. Pls make sure to discuss all of this with your provider. ...Read more
Tried celexa, made anxiety worse, sister tried it, same reaction. She had success w/ wellbutrin (bupropion) said it works differently, could this help me?
NO: Usually people with anxiety D/O's are more sensitive to side effects. Antidepressants that modulate anxiety (Wellbutrin (bupropion) is not one of them) need to be started and up titration at much smaller dosages. I.e. Citalopram 50mg and in some people 2mg, then gradually medicine is tolerated better. Good luck and feel better. ...Read more
Is it safe to take 75mg of wellbutrin, 10mg of celexa and 2mg of Abilify (aripiprazole) all at once?
Yes: It is safe to take those three medications together as long as the they were prescribed by the provider, and the provider who prescribed them is aware of the potential for interactions. As with any medications, if you experience side effects you should get in touch with the prescriber if they occur. ...Read more
I have started to take Wellbutrin and I am on about day number 5, before this I was taking Celexa but got eased off of it but now my skin is in hives?
Why did my antidepressants (celexa and wellbutrin (bupropion) SR) stop suppressing my appetite after a few years on them?
I'm currently on celexa 40 mg and Wellbutrin (bupropion) XL 150 mg. Is it okay to take valerian as a supplement for anxiety?
To some degree: Wellbutrin, (bupropion) in most cases, either decreases appetite or has no effect on it. The most important way to avoid weight gain is a healthy balanced diet and exercise. Celexa may increase appetite but it is the number of calories consumed and not spent daily is what causes the weight gain. ...Read more

Been on Celexa 40 for months with no improvement in depression. Just added 75mg wellbutrin (bupropion) once a day and 40mg celexa every other day. Is this OK?
My doc has me on celexa and Wellbutrin (bupropion) XL for my anxiety. Is this a good combination? I've read that Wellbutrin (bupropion) can sometimes increase anxiety?
Work closely: This combo requires your provider to stay very involved since there is a higher risk for seizure side effects. But, if that's not a problem - it might be effective. Almost all psych meds seem to have as a possible side effect the very symptom complained of. It's a reason I urge trying talk therapy 1st - adding meds only if needed. Think about it, but don't just stop! Withdrawal's a real concern! ...Read more
I am prescribed 70 mg Vyvanse, 20 mg celexa, and 150 mg Wellbutrin (bupropion) 2x daily. The new Dr. I have seen says I test positive for meth. DON'T USE METH EVER?
Vyvanse (lisdexamfetamine) shows up: As amphetamine in urine screens. It's often written on a lab report as "amphetamines/methamphetamines" with a positive result's being above a certain cut-off number. You're on the maximum adult daily dose of Vyvanse (lisdexamfetamine). Please seek referral to a psychiatrist who knows its potential for drug interactions with Celexa & WB & is familiar with interpreting drug screen reports. ...Read more
If I go off topamax (topiramate) will I gain weight? Haven't noticed it causing any weight loss in yrs. Was 149 lbs on it (&celexa)but now on wellbutrin which helps!!
Likely outcome- no:
Topamax (topiramate) may cause weight loss by several mechanisms, but it is not a very effective weight loss treatment. It appears you were not using it to manage weight. You did not experience weight changes with it. That helps predict the outcome.
When you discontinue topamax, (topiramate) it is not likely you will gain weight. ...Read more
I'm on wellbutrin (bupropion) 150 1xday for past yr; it helped I still have lots anxiety despite my efforts to overcome doc added 10mg celexa will this drug help?
Probably: Well butting is a very good antidepressant, but may actually exacerbate anxiety. Celexa is good for both anxiety and depression. You are on low dose of both. Max dose of celexa is 40 mg. Using these 2 meds together is not uncommon, but if celexa helps discuss with your doc possibly dropping Wellbutrin (bupropion) at some point ...Read more

Yes & no: Yes, Celexa (citalopram) can sometimes causes changes to your menstrual cycle (http://www. Drugs. Com/sfx/celexa-side-effects. Html). Changes have also been noted w/wellbutrin (bupropion): http://www. Drugs. Com/sfx/wellbutrin-side-effects. Html. Can I ask for a certain anti depressant from the psychiatrist? Instead of just being started off on Prozac or celexa, could I ask for wellbutrin (bupropion)?
Ask for certain med: You certainly may ask for a specific treatment and express all questions and concerns about treatment. Your psychiatrist will then answer all questions and discuss all treatment options. S/he will make what s/he considers to be safe, effective, wise treatment recommendations in light of the complete assessment. Be honest and find a md with whom you can have a good working relationship. ...Read more
Have tried pristiq, (desvenlafaxine) wellbutrin, paxil, celexa, effexor, lexapro, etc. With lithium, haliperidol &abilify. A couple improve mood. Still anxious! Thoughts?
Many meds: You've tried many meds already, although there are some you haven't mentioned that often help anxiety: buspirone, beta-blockers, other mood stabilizers besides lithium, etc. But after a person has tried so many medications and still has symptoms, i'd suggest non-medication approaches: psychotherapy, mindfulness, relaxation training, exercise/yoga, etc. ...Read more
I tried celexa, effexor, cymbalta, pristiq, (desvenlafaxine) lexapro, zoloft, wellbutrin, which barely helped. What else could I try? How do u feel about paxil?
Agree w/Dr. Buggie: I agree with dr. Buggie about the need for psychiatric evaluation and ongoing treatment. Wellbutrin does not help with anxiety. Paxil (paroxetine) is a reasonable choice, but whether it's right for you I cannot say. You're also on Adderall xr, which can exacerbate anxiety in some. Psychotherapy is an important part of treatment for anxiety also -- but you didn't mention pursuing that. ...Read more
Used to be extremely strong until geodon (ziprasidone) risperdal celexa wellbutrin cogentin. Now body feels muscles are not supporting joints or strengthening body?
Go see your doctor: I can't tell if you're taking both Geodon (ziprasidone) & Risperdal at same time as these are both antipsychotics and can affect your muscle tone. Tell your prescribing physician (psychiatrist, right/) what's going on. You may need adjustment of dose and/or regimen. ...Read more
Bipolar 2 on 200mg seraquil, abilify, (aripiprazole) celexa, wellbutrin and lithium I am still so depressed and hard to fall asleep is it normal?
Will I experience depression after a breast reduction? I have clinical depression, and I'm taking two anti-depressants (celexa and wellbutrin). I would like to have a breast reduction, but have heard that depression is common after the surgery. How likely
Maybe: It sounds like you already experience depression, so that won't likely change after surgery. However, some women do feel a little "let down" after plastic surgery, during the healing process. It's good that you recognize that, as you'll be able to discuss it with your surgeon and be aware of the signs. ...Read more
I am on celexa for anxiety, wellbutrin (bupropion) for energy and desyrel for insomnia. I have increased sweating anything I can take to combat it?
Prescribing: Some people feel that a separate medication should be given to "combat" each symptom -- rather than investigating causes or seeing systemic inter-relationships. Is this maybe you? Excessive sweating can indicate issues with your medications (possible serotonin overload, for instance). Please work with your physician to review & deal with this, rather than automatically seeking another drug. ...Read more
