Ice in water is better as ice coming out of the freezer is at 0 degrees F or lower & can burn U. Things U can do to help yourself, include:-
1: Heating pad ;
2: Support your chest during Cough/sneeze, with hand(s), or a cushion that U hug;
3: Muscle relaxers;
4: Cough syrup to suppress it;
5:Request your Doc for some Intercostal blocks of anesthetic meds.maybe helpful.
