To get genital herpes you have to touch the infected area? A woman has an infected area above vagina, not on it. So as long as I don't touch that spot I should be ok? She's been on meds for it for 4 years. No outbreak for 2 years.

Not true: People with herpes can spread it even if there is no outbreak or if you do not touch the outbreak area. Use condoms for better protection, but even they are not 100%. Read this from the CDC: http://www. Cdc. Gov/std/herpes/STDFact-herpes. Htm Read more

Possible to get HSV: Visible HSV lesions are infectious but just covering the lesion may not be sufficient to prevent HSV transmission if there is also infectious virus on nearby skin. Avoiding close skin contact when there's a definite HSV outbreak, using condoms at other times & the person taking antiviral meds all significantly reduce HSV transmission. Read more

Is it okay to try to have a baby even though being I am infected with genital herpes?

Is it okay to try to have a baby even though being I am infected with genital herpes?

Yes: Yes. There is a risk of transmission to the baby during pregnancy but this is very low. The greatest risk for transmission is during a vaginal delivery if there are any active lesions (during an outbreak). You would be placed on medication to take daily to help prevent an outbreak. If active lesions are present, your OB might recommend cesarean delivery. Read more

Can you get infected with genital herpes if you touched your own urine and then touch your face?

Can you get infected with genital herpes if you touched your own urine and then touch your face?

Herpes: That sounds very unlikely. Herpes can spread fairly easily through contact with body fluids. When in doubt, a blood test can confirm or exclude herpes 1 or 2. Read more

I'm wondering if I am already infected with genital herpes and I contract HIV what are the symptoms?

Usually nothing: Hiv usually doesn't have any symptoms. Some people report a flu like illness (fevers, chills, body aches) when we think they first got infected but most don't. There are no symptoms until much later in the disease. If you are concerned, you should get tested. Read more

Herpes: Herpes is caused by a virus that can lie dormant in the body for years. Because of this, you can catch it from someone who has never even had any symptoms. Since you had a negative test in june and a positive test now, it's safe to say you probably contracted herpes sometime between then and now, but when and from who cannot be determined. Either partner could have transmitted it to you and your outbreak would not have necessarily coincided with when you contracted it. I attached a center for disease control website with information about herpes below. Read more

I used a hemorrhoid cream from someone infected with genital herpes and when I took some out I put it in a toilet paper and applied it. Can I get herp?

Possible but slight: Virsuses can live outside the body for short period of time (like seconds, most article say < 10 seconds,) but longer in damp conditions. So, very unlikely unless your friend had just used the medication. Read more

Can you get genital herpes from wearing pants after an infected person wore them?

Genital herpes: No. This does not happen. One could theorize that if the pants were saturated with body fluids containing the virus and put on immediately while still wet and this came in contact with genital mucosa that this could happen, but it would probably be a first. Read more

If the rates of transmission are so low (8 percent for YEAR with infected partner or lower), why/how do 40-50 million people have genital herpes?

Sex and Math: Approximately 1 in 5 or 6 US adults and teens have HSV type 2 infections and do not know it. According to the CDC 776, 000 in the US get new infections yearly. So a lot of people are going around having unprotected sex spreading a virus without knowledge. Question the 8 percent per year rate.? Sex partners need to get blood tests before becoming intimate, use condom, if + take antivirals. Read more
