What does it mean if my baby's poop has mucous in it?

What does it mean if my baby's poop has mucous in it?

Possibly an allergy: Stools can be many different colors (yellow, brown and green) and can also be different consistencies. Occasionally, infant stools can also contain mucous. If your baby is happy, gaining weight and the stool does not have blood in it, it is probably normal. If not, it might mean that your baby has an allergy to something he/she is eating (usually cow's milk or soy protein). ...Read more

Why would a 2 month old baby have mucus poop?

Why would a 2 month old baby have mucus poop?

Allergy or normal: If the baby is feeding well and there is no blood in the stool or unusual vomiting or other signs of illness, then it may be normal to have a mucousy stool from time to time. However, mucus may be a sign of allergy to a component of infant formula, or in some cases something in mom's milk. If this happens rarely, probably not a big concern. If frequent, consider discussing with pediatrician. ...Read more

This may be fixable: This is the time and behavior associate with colic that is common. No one really knows the cause but I believe there are many different causes given a young infant digestive tract. Stools sound normal. As a normal stage, fussy times begin between 3 to 6 weeks, resulting in a unconsololable baby between 6/9 pm of age. These episodes usually last for one ...Read more

Had colic and green, bloody, mucus poops.Eliminated all allergens from my diet and gave reflux meds.Baby happy.Poop-no blood and orange.why mucus still?

Inflammation: likely caused the previous symptoms in your baby and you resolved these by adjusting your diet resulting in a happy baby with orange stool and ongoing mucous. Orange color to the stool is a variant of normal and of no concern. It will take longer for the mucous to stop as the inflammation that caused the bloody stools has to heal. Have your pediatrician check to see that your baby is growing and gaining weight well and that there is no longer traces of blood in the stool. Rarely a baby will have an enterocolitis caused by milk proteins and if present there will be traces of blood in the stool not necessarily visible. This is unlikely if the baby is comfortable and thriving. What do I do if my baby's poop is smelly and has mucous in it?

Other symptoms?: If the kid is otherwise thriving i would just monitor the situation. Common viruses (rotovirus) and some ingested materials (antibiotics) cause the smelliest poo i deal with.
