My 12 year old son who is very active but his weight is 142lbs.and eats vegetables and fruits but can't seem to lose weight. What would be a good diet?
If he's 5'4" or <, : his BMI is 95th%ile or >, in the obese range; if 5'5" - 5'8", in the overweight range. See his pediatrician, who will calculate his BMI, & do a physical exam, blood pressure & labs to determine if he has weight-related medical problems. He needs variety..: A variety of food types and portions/servings are recommended--see the pyramid for example. Since he is growing and playing contact sports, he can burn off calories faster than those who don't, and thus needs to take in more. But in general, we eat too much anyway.
