Suspect hepatitis: It is very important that you see a physician and have complete workup done to check for acute hepatitis. Hepatitis can be due to viruses, medicines (e.G cholesterol medicines, phenothiazines) or autoimmune diseases (like systemic lupus erythematosus). ...Read more

What are the differences between the monocytes, neutrophils, eosinophils, lymphocytes, and basophils?

What are the differences between the monocytes, neutrophils, eosinophils, lymphocytes, and basophils?

Phew: Hard to answer in this space. Would refer to wikipedia for more. These are different types of white cells in the blood and their relative levels give us clues to underlying disease. Example, neutrophils are elevated in acute infection such as sepsis and we like to watch it return to normal with treatment. Eosinophils are elevated in atopic dermatitis and drug reactions. Ask separately for more ...Read more

Too little info: The blood results are not concerning. Many things can cause facial itching but you haven't provided any further description so no guidance can be given. ...Read more

Any symptoms?: All laboratory results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the tests is usually in the best position to do that. Having said that, the results you provided are not a cause for concern.
For good health - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Drink enough water daily, so that your urine is mostly colorless. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form.
Practice safe sex, if you have sex. ...Read more

See hematologist.: A disease cannot be diagnosed by a blood test and thus you need to discuss the findings with a hematologist or immunologist depending on what kind of disease condition you have especially if this has been a persistently abnormal finding. ...Read more

You are vf running: A neutrophil count of 750 to 1000. In the absence of infection or mouth sores not a concern but a consult to review possible causes might be helpful. ...Read more

Hi my blood tests results are basophils absolute 150 h normal range 0-120. lymphocytes absolute 4390 h reference range 1000-3850, monotype absolute?

That's fine: Reference ranges are set so that a few percent of healthies fall outside on either on either end. Your lymphocytes and basophils were on extra patrol that day. Relax and be glad they're working for you ...Read more

I have 'raised lymphocytes' written on my blood test results and I have to have another fbc in 3 weeks. Should I be worried about leukemia?

I would not worry: It is unlikely that simply having high lymphocytes would be leukemia. The most common cause for this finding is a viral infection. Symptoms of leukemia would include bruising, fatigue, fever and bone pain. Certainly, have your fbc rechecked if any of these symptoms occur. ...Read more

Stop worrying: These numbers fluctuate wildly with something as simple as a cold shower. If the absolute white count is basically normal, you're fine. Reference ranges are set so that a few percent of healthies fall outside on either end. Best wishes. ...Read more

Possible of a 19 year old getting chronic lymphatic leukaemia or any other leukemia? Few symptoms plus 'raised lymphocytes' on first blood test

Possible of a 19 year old getting chronic lymphatic leukaemia or any other leukemia? Few symptoms plus 'raised lymphocytes' on first blood test

Stop worrying: I understand your concern. An elevated percent lymphocytes means nothing without another red flag. An elevation in absolute lymphocytes probably means you are getting a cold. You're too young for cll. If you had acute leukemia or another, the lab would flag the abnormal lymphocytes. If you sense your fear of leukemia is irrational, talk with your physician -- happens to many of us. Good luck. ...Read more

I have just received a letter from my doctor saying that my blood count showed a mildly raised lymphocyte and white cell count, what does it mean?

Needs follow up: If you were ill when this test was run it would be normal to be mildly elevated. Other things like oral steroids can raise your white blood cell count. It is important to have it repeated and see if this is a trend. ...Read more

Hi. 51yr old female here with automated neutrophils at 37, lymphocytes at 49 momo's at 11 and Basophils at 0..... am I at risk for myloid leukemia?

Why do you ask?: Without abnormal forms in your blood, and assuming the absolute counts were reasonably close to the reference range, this does not suggest preleukemia or anything else. ...Read more

High neutrophils, low monocytes, low lymphocytes, normal basophils, normal eosinophils what could be the reason? Can this indicate teniasis?

Not likely: It would help to have the actual values. However, a normal blood count does not rule out teniasis. It would be better to examine a stool sample for segments or eggs. ...Read more

Spinal tap results. Csf beta% raised slighty. Csf albumin raised slighty. Cytology report showed increased immature and mature lymphocytes and monocyt?

Check with oncology: The cytology report is a bit concerning and you need to follow-up with your oncologist. Anytime you see increased lymphocytes in the absence of an infection, you have to watch for lymphoma. Your oncologist should be able to give you more information depending on how increased the lymphocyte # is above the normal for your lab. ...Read more

With gastroenteritis, total WBC isn't raised, the only abnormality is low lymphocytes (339). Is this likely a virus, or an autoimmune condition?

With gastroenteritis, total WBC isn't raised, the only abnormality is low lymphocytes (339). Is this likely a virus, or an autoimmune condition?

Gastroenteritis: Most gastroenteritis is viral and lasts only a few days at most. Often it lasts only 24-48 hours. The total WBC count is not usually elevated. A low lymphocyte count is normal during such an infection. Here's a research paper describing this phenomenon, called "transient lymphopenia" : http://www. Ncbi. Nlm. Nih. Lymphocyte percentage high. Eosinophils high. Basophils absolute count low. MCH & MCHC low. Hair falling out of body. Feeling pins & needles. Is there link?

No: The percentage numbers on your CBC mean nothing apart from absolute counts. Low basophils never mean anything, and high eos matter only if they're way-high. You're anemic and losing body hair, somebody's put you on two vitamins for some reason without giving you a full explanation. You need a hematology, dermatology & maybe endocrine consult. There's no single cause. Insist on answers. ...Read more

Ok: The leukocytes are high. If this was checked while you were ill it suggests infection but otherwise is very non-specific. The eosinophils are a higher percentage than typical which most commonly means you are an allergic person. ...Read more

Mesenteric lymphadenitis, fat attenuation in small bowel, raised WBC, Neutrophils and Lymphocytes. Next test do or specialist to see?

How can one raise their lymphocytes?

How can one raise their lymphocytes?

Curious: Do you mean raise your immune system in general or raise the actual count of white cells on your blood test? Even more specifically, do you mean just the lymphocyte count which is only one type of white cell (others include neutrophils, eosinophil). If you always have a low WBC count, yet feel fine, try jumping jacks for 60 seconds prior to your blood draw, it "shakes" the white cells off wall. ...Read more

How do you FEEL???: I am going to assume you are hiv-negative & levels are not super-low. My experience in the hospital lab taught me that many people run low lymphocyte counts for long or short periods without any explanation ever being found. What could atypical lymphocytes with low neutrophils and high lymphocyte values mean? Everything else is in normal range.

Generally viral: But having a lot of them would indicate a serious condition like leukemia. Without an actual examination, I cannot give specific medical advice on your particular health, but there's a lot more on the test that you wouldn't know to tell me, but the person ordering it would know.
How abnormal are they? How many? Is there a lot of anemia or other abnormalities? Is the person getting the test sick? ...Read more
