Is it true women with hyperemesis are having twins or are very likely to have twins?

Is it true women with hyperemesis are having twins or are very likely to have twins?

Partly.: Each of these urban myths has a speck of truth. Hyperemesis gravidarum (hg) is due to the HCG which is proportionately increased with multifetal pregnancies; this means that women with multifetal pregnancies are more likely to suffer from hg compared to women carrying singleton pregnancies. Having said that, hg cannot be used to predict fetal plurality - prenatal ultrasound isd the test of choice. ...Read more

Hello! I am a fertile woman, i want to have twins. What do I do to have it, please advise. Thanks.

Luck: Having twins naturally can happen because of luck or it may be genetically predetermined. Fertility treatment does increase the risk of multiple pregnancies. I do not recommend doing treatment just to have twins. Keep in mind that twins do have a higher complication rate than singleton pregnancies. The best possible outcome in any pregnancy is the singelton outcome. ...Read more

BMI: Your calculated BMI is 26.6. This is a measurement that takes into consideration your height and weight. Ideally it should be between 19-24.99. If my identical twin sister has ADHD is it highly likely that I have it too?

Yes: Concordance between identical twins for adhd is as high as 95%. Biederman & faraone published studies in 2000 citing these statistics. Many others have since corroborated the data. Just because you inherited it doesn't mean it will express itself in your case. We call this penetrance of a genetic trait. Environment can modulate the likelihood of penetrance of an inherited characteristic. ...Read more

I've been told that the occurrence of twins depends on a woman's DNA and that the ability skips generations - is this true?

I've been told that the occurrence of twins depends on a woman's DNA and that the ability skips generations - is this true?

No and No: The tendency for a woman to release more than 1 egg is an x linked trait that can be transmitted by either the mother or father. A generation is only skipped if the trait is carried by a male (who can't ovulate!) this results in fraternal twins from 2 separate eggs and sperm. Identical twins occur when a single fertilized egg splits into two embryos and is not genetically determined. ...Read more
