What will happen to me if I forgot to take my antidepressants one day?

What will happen to me if I forgot to take my antidepressants one day?

Depends: The half life of the medication dictates how fast it gets out of your system. At least one antidepressant has a weekly pill. Other medications get out faster and can cause some discomfort. Which medicine are you on? ...Read more

Can't answer: This may be spotting instead of your period. I don't know of association of menstrual changes with ssri discontinuation. (but i don't know if you were on an ssri as the type of antidepressant isn't listed). ...Read more

I stopped taking my antidepressants 3 weeks ago and decided to take one tonight, 2 hours after taking it I feel really sick, not sure if it's normal?

Possibly: You do not indicate how long you took the antidepressant or the specifics when you say "really sick." G.I. symptoms are one of the most common side effects of SSRI's. After three weeks it is like you are starting the medication all over. ...Read more

If i forget to take my antidepressant do I take an extra one? I take one at night and one in the morning. If i forget the morning one, do I take two at night or vice versa?

The main reason is a rather undesirable increase in the drug level in the blood that is beyond the safe level. One of my previous answers already dealt with this issue and a potential for so-called serotonergic syndrome (the drug in question was citalopram). Other drugs, for example, bupropion (also known as wellbutrin) have been associated with seizures that may occur when the blood concentration goes beyond the therapeutic level. To summarize, my recommendation would be to not take the extra dose of your antidepressant medication. ...Read more

I am on antidepressants and I am sick. I was wondering if it's okay to take cold/flu meds while taking oxcarbazepine? If so, what ones are safe?

Oxcarbazepine: You can take drugs like pseudofed and robitussin A-C if you are on Trileptal (oxcarbazepine). However, if you are on other medications, you will need to check on whether there are other interactions with those medications as well. If you have the patient insert of these medications, that's a good place to start. ...Read more

I heard that new antidepressants help make new neurons in brain, please can you advice me which ones, dr had suggested me to take them, and lost contact?

I heard that new antidepressants help make new neurons in brain, please can you advice me which ones, dr had suggested me to take them, and lost contact?

Probably all of them: In our search to try to understand how antidepressants work, we have explored their impact on bdnf (brain-derived neurotrophic factor), which is a substance that induces development of neurons. Most of our antidepressants probably increase bdnf. The decision about an antidepressant takes into consideration the disorder to be treated and the side effects most eagerly avoided.
