What Vitamins To Take For Hypothyroidism
None: The four conditions you are describing are serious medical conditions that need to be evaluated and treated by your physician. A general multivitamin may help, and in some cases of hypothyroidism and depression vitamin D or one of the B vitamins may help. However, these should not be a substitute for proper medical care, and should only be taken with guidance from a physician. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

I am diagnosed with hypothyroid. At present I am on eltroxin 100 mg and calcium vitamins. Can i also take prenatal vitamins but I am not planning 2yrs.?
Yes: Yes you can. I think it is wise for everyone to take a multivitamin. Prenatal vitamins can be a great multiple for women of childbearing age even if they are not currently pregnant. There are many good ones. My favorite brands include rainbow light and new chapter. As you may know, it is best to take thyroid on an empty stomach and to not take calcium supplements until at least 2 hours later. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
I'm on 100mgs of thyroxine for hypothyroidism. I'm trying for a baby can I take a preconception vitamin with iodine in it 150mg. Will it interact. ?
That's fine: Hi. It's fine to take that prenatal vitamin with that iodine; it won't interact with your l-thyroxine. And just to clarify, you're taking 100 micrograms (mcg), not 100 milligrams (mg). 100 mcg is the same as 0.1 mg, so if you want to use milligrams, it's 0.1 mg. Often your l-thyroxine dose will need to be increased early in your pregnancy. I'm sure your OB is on top of that. Good luck! ...Read more
Can patient of liver chirrosis and hypothyroidism plus diabetic with vitamin d deffecency take more than 800iu of vitamin d3?
Yes: There is controversy about what is the optimal dose of vitamin d. While the us government office of dietary supplements recommends only 600 iu/day, many doctors who do research in vitamin d recommend much higher levels, 2000-5000 iu/day. Go to the vitamin d council website and see studies to show that higher doses of vitamin d may help prevent cancer, infections, dementia and many other diseases. ...Read more
Yes: Having hypothryroidism does not affect your need for vitamins. The only concern is that taking calcium supplements can interfere with absorption of thyroid hormone, so if the penatal vitamin has calcium take it at least 2 hours after taking thyroid. Also, i advise having your doctor check your free T3 level- if not in the upper half of the normal range consider adding liothyronine (t3). ...Read more

The thyroid makes thyroid hormone, the main one is t4, which is converted in other tissues to t3. An underactive thyroid makes too little thyroid hormone. You feel sluggish, bloated, constipated, cold. It is treated by taking replacement hormone levothyroxine. The thyroid also makes calcitonin, which is involved in calcium metabolism, but it is a weak hormone in ...Read more
