Many good options: B vits may help (esp. B12 if you're deficient). Phosphatidylserine, acetyl-l-carnitine, bacopa, vinpocetine, ashwagandha, gingko, rhodiola, dmae, hydergine ; piracetam are all proven to help.As for diet, fish rich in dha like wild salmon ; sardines ; fruits/veggies of all colors are recommended. Healthy diet: Simple answer is eating a healthy balanced diet and exercise (physical and mental). If you happen to be deficient (or even borderline) in b12, thiamine, vitamin d, or vitamin e, so have a doctor check. Avoid smoking and keep alcohol to < 2 drinks/day maximum. Therefore, need to clean off plate first. As for vitamins, none are proven to improve memory in non-demented individuals although we always search for vitamin B12 deficiency in dementia evaluation. Possibly, BUT: This is sort of a research question: not entirely clear whether biologically active vitamins can improve memory or merely stabilize memory loss. We have a medical food, cerefolin-nac, which improves levels of folate (folic acid) and b-12 in the aging brain, and nac acts to decrease oxidation. ALZHEIMER MODEL: Not fully clear if vitamins do improve memory in anyone, but there is evidence to suggest that Vitamin D-3 supplementation can help many neurological issues, including Alzheimer's and Parkinson's. Some prior studies on mild cognitive impairment suggested potential value for biologically active B-6, B-12, but this might best apply to those who have elevations of homocysteine.
