A 15 year old girl has G6pd. Vitamin D level : 9.7ng/ml. Can she start taking vitamin D supplement? And how?
Vit D deficiency: Vit D levels are low in lots of pts. Most docs who check it will tell you it needs to be about 60, range is 30 to 100. A level of 9.7 will take a while to get up, but when it gets in the upper normal range the person will have so much more energy and feel better all around. Try the Vit D 5000U gummies. Need 2nd opinion Dr.: You have enough things going on that you need to be working with, or getting a 2nd opinion from an integrative medicine doctor (or ayurvedic physician. Vitamin D absorption is much less in obesity, b/c it gets sequestered (stored and not active) in fat &you need Vitamin B12 to be higher. Yes: Prenatal vitamins are definitely healthy for women in their adolescence. Typically most prenatals have extra folic acid, iron and calcium. I typically recommend cost comparison to my patients because sometimes there is an upcharge on prenatals. Plenty available: It is a mistake to believe that taking a pill "lets us off thehook". Vitamin supplements do not work well unless the diet is as pristine as you can afford. One with iron: A multiple vitamin a day with food and one that contains iron would be beneficial in a menstruating 15 year old provided there are not iron related illnesses in the patient or the family (hemochromatosis). Depends: Most women finish growing taller at 16-17 or within 3 years of first menses. The hormones that trigger puberty start a growth spurt but eventually the growth centers will close. Once the growth centers close you are done. A single x-ray of your wrist/hand could be examined for growth centers. If open you could grow taller, if closed you are done. Vitamins teen girl: Not neccessarily, vitamins are only suplements, if you are not getting enough from the food you eat, it will make up for that. It does not do anything with teenage development.
