Probably viral: Blisters on the tounge with swollen tonsils is most often caused by a virus. There are other cause possible. Sometime strep can cause the swollen tonsil while the tounge could be due to a vrus at the same time. Might want to see your pediatrician. ...Read more

It was fashionable to take them out for sore throat not so long ago. Doesn't work. The throat that remains gets sore. There are very few indications for tonsillectomy. "Short term" OK: Using steroids for a short period of time is usually OK. A large dose with rapid tapering is often helpful in allergic and other "swelling". Long term there are many side effects.
