What types of foods are easy to keep down when nauseous?

What types of foods are easy to keep down when nauseous?

BRAT diet: When you are nauseous, the more bland the food the better. It will irritate your already irritated stomach less. Bread, bananas, rice (white), apple sauce, toast. Avoid high fiber as this can cause some increased irritation and gas. Also avoid dairy while you are nauseous. Try saltines, as many people feel the light flavor, small amount of salt, and absorptive properties all help. Hope that helps! ...Read more

On antibiotics?: There could be a couple things contributing to your nausea. Are you on antibiotics? Some antibiotics cause a lot of nausea especially if not taken with food. Also the nicotine patch can sometimes cause nausea. Just having bronchitis and swallowing some of the mucus can also cause nausea. You need to see a doctor for medication if you are not being able to hold down fluids. ...Read more

Unable to keep food/water down for the last 36 hours. Is a suppository anti nausea medicine worth a try? I'm pretty weak and will try anything

May need IV fluids: If you are unable to eat or drink anything for 36 hours, you most likely are getting dehydrated. You can try an anti nausea medication by suppository, but I suggest you be seen by your family doctor today or go to the emergency room for further care. ...Read more

I have chronic nausea that makes it impossible to keep food or liquid down, multiple days a week What can I do to keep from getting malnourished?

Treat nausea/vomit: Sounds like you have vomiting as well. Obviously you need to treat the nausea. See a GI specialist &/or integrative MD for a through evaluation. You may have parasites or other chronic infections, heavy metal toxicity or other toxins, poor intestinal motility etc. Are there emotional factors? Many drugs & herbs may help, from Zoran to cannabis, ginger & triphala. Consider acupuncture & homeopathy. ...Read more

Depends on the etiol: If you have dificulty in swallowing, talking and hoarsenss, and these symptoms were not there before your surgery, you need to get in touch with your surgeon immediately. If they were there before then you need a detailed evaluatin of your throat. Postop nausea is not uncommon after general anesthesia, however, if the symptoms are not going away you need further workup. ...Read more

I have been nauseous for the past two days, I started throwing up excessively 2 nights ago I and I'm really nauseous still i cant seem to keep my food down and feel the urge to vomit but now I really don't have much left and it hurts and now I'm throwing

Nausea & Vomitting: Those symptoms are worrisome, particularly after two days and if you're not keeping down any food or liquid. This can lead to dehydration which can be very serious, even after only a couple of days. You should go to an emergency center for evaluation and possible IV fluids. Possibilities include stomach flu, pregnancy, food poisoning, appendicitis, gallstones, stomach ulcer, gastroparesis, etc. ...Read more

Vomiting, nausea, low fever for three days and cannot keep food down.

Vomiting, nausea, low fever for three days and cannot keep food down.

3 days too long: 3 days is too long to be vomiting - you need to see your doc tomorrow, or if there is an urgent care center by you tonight. If you have significant abdominal pain of what you are throwing up is bright yellow or green, then you need the er tonight. Most stomach flus you only vomit 12-24 hours - once past that is unusual for stomach virus, and at three days, you certainly need further evaluation. ...Read more

Stomach Scope: I would make sure you do not have a stomach ulcer with a stomach scope. You should return to your family doc or surgeon and tell them this is going on. I think most likely they wil treat you with acid blockers and possibly do the scope sooner that later. ...Read more
