Which type of doctor should I see? I have an inflammed nerve in my right hip/buttocks area for the last week. It started after a 5 mile run. It now is painfull all the time and twitching, and today I have numbness in my right foot for the first time.
It: It is possible that you are experiencing piriformis syndrome from your run. The muscle is deep in the butt cheek and lies over the sciatic nerve. You should be seen to rule out other things but a quick test is to lie down on your back, bend your right leg up so the heel is close to the butt and pull the right knee to your left side. That move pulls on the piriformis muscle stretching it. If that hurts a lot you probably got a spasm in the muscle. If you had a ruptured disk straight leg raising would hurt. ...Read more

Numbness in fingers I have had numbness and a pins-and-needles sensation in my right hand and fingers for several weeks now. What kind of doctor should I see?
Numbnesss and tingling can be caused by issues directly related to the hand, wrist and upper extremity but there can also be indirect or systemic issues that can cause this. While carpal tunnel syndrome is common and a hand surgeon or orthopedic surgeon takes care of this, the other issues, circulation, referred pain, neck causes, nerve issues not related to compression, other types of nerve compression, arthritis, trauma, and a host of other issues including medications you are taking can come in to play. While a hand surgeon may be well versed to care for this, if you have a primary care physician do not leave them out of the loop.

Neurological: Neurological problems that could cause numbness perceived in both hands include compression of the nerves that feel the hands (most commonly the median nerve, but possibly the ulnar nerve or the radial nerve) or the tributaries of these nerves (cervical nerve roots or brachial plexus), a problem involving the spinal cord (such as transverse myelitis), or some more abstract problems (such as hyperventilation or migraine aura). Similar feelings could also come from problems affecting blood vessels or blood chemistry. It is a good idea to get these kind of symptoms checked by a doctor. ...Read more

How likely am I to be diagnosed with ms? I originally went to the doctor for numbness and tingling in my hand and foot and have gotten severe pain in my opposite arm and hip on two occasions. One white spot was found on my brain mri, minor degenerative c
Hard to say: One white spot on brain MRI is nonspecific. If it is in a particular area (corpus callosum) it would be more concerning, otherwise it could have been from prior brain infection (encephalitis) or trauma (shearing injury). Your symptoms are a bit more worrisome. Perhaps a spinal fluid analysis will help. Neurology consult would be useful. ...Read more

48 hours ago my left thumb and index finger tips went numb after a firm front neck massage. The feeling has still not returned. Should I see a doctor?
This suggests that you might have something (like an intervertebral disc)pressing on a nerve in your neck. It could be related to the massage if it was forceful enough to put your neck vertebrae out of alignment. You can see an orthopedist but I advise seeing an osteopath who does osteopathic manipulation- see http://physician. Academyofosteopathy. Org/

I will make the assumption that you were bitten some where near the thumb nail? Don't know if there is redness, swelling, broken skin, bruising, warmth. Don't know if the numbness involves the whole thumb. Don't know if your symptoms are becomig progressively worse. I will assume the worst case scenario for the sake of safety.
