What type of anesthesia is typically used for knee surgery? Will I be awake?

Several options: Knee arthroscopy can sometimes be done under local anesthesia with sedation. Often, major operations such as knee or hip replacements are done under spinal or epidural anesthesia. Usually, the patient is given sedation in order to nap comfortably during the surgery. General anesthesia is always an option. What kind of anesthesia is used for knee surgery? Do I have to undergo general anesthesia for knee surgery?

No there are options: Practical and eloquent alternatives to general anesthesia for knee surgery are 1) single sided spinal anesthesia or 2) peripheral nerve block anesthesia using a combined femoral and sciatic nerve block. Both alternatives typically involve some amount of IV sedation as well (although strictly speaking it is not necessary). The peripheral nerve block also provides long lasting post op pain control. ...Read more

Scheduled for colonoscopy. What is the generally used anesthetic for Thai procedure?Propofol?Had a bad reaction upon waking from surgery while on it.

Why ask here? : It may be propofol, it may be midazolam, it may be fentanyl. Different docs use different drugs. Why don't you ask them? Call 'em up. Be sure to check with your insurance carrier. Some will cover certain drugs and others won't. If your doc's choice is not covered, be sure to let them know. They may be able to get authorization from your carrier. Getting one may take a few years (a joke, sort of). ...Read more

What type of anesthesia is done for shoulder arthroscopy?

General or regional: Shoulder arthroscopy may be done under general anesthesia, meaning that you would be completely asleep. Is it common for doctors to use an epidural during a butt lift? How effective is an epidural for a butt lift procedure, and is this the preferred type of anesthesia for the treatment? Can i opt for another method, as I have a curved spine. From the delive

The : The procedure can be done with an epidural or general anesthesia. If your health permits, there should be little or no difference in anesthetic risk. With regards to your spine, its curvature will usually not affect the effectiveness of the epidural only the difficulty of its insertion. By the way, it is unlikely your curvature is due to a pregnancy. It is most likely congenital. Most people have some asymmetrical curvature of the spine. Although it may not be noticeable or problematic. Discuss the anesthetic with the anesthesiologist that will be there for the procedure since it is usually best(safer/better results) to do what he feels the most comfortable doing. Good luck and i hope this helps. ...Read more

Yes it is common: The reason an epidural is offered with a "butt-lift" is that it can assist with post-operative pain control for a prolonged period of time. If you have had problems with placement in the past (curved spine) there are other techniques that can be used. Talk with your anesthesiologist about what technique is best for you. ...Read more

How much pain can I expect after a Fulkerson osteotomy? Which pain medication is most commonly prescribed? When will the nerve block be done?

Varies: The pain varies some from person to person and surgeon to surgeon. But by definition, an osteotimy does involve a cut in the bone and so the pain is somewhat similar to a fracture.
