Shingles rash: Shingles can be very painful and the rash can be quite blistery and raw. It is therefore advisable to take care of this damaged and inflammed skin. If it's been 9 days already, hopefully things are getting better. The point is to be careful to protect the skin so no further damage occurs and to prevent secondary bacterial infection (if the skin is already broken up and damaged). Prob doesn't matter: Has herpes zoster (shingles) been professionally diagnosed? Don't try to diagnose and treat yourself. Shingles can occur at age 25, but not very common. A lotion or cream might help rash feel better, but won't speed healing. You need antiviral drug by mouth (e.g. valacyclovir) and maybe a steroid to help prevent future nerve pain. Yes: This medication can be combined with an oral steroid. Start with 1% hydrocortisone - mix a good portion with an eczema cream and spread over affected areas within 3 minutes after shower/bath. See your MD for alternative prescription strength creams if this is not helpful.
