What To Eat The Day Or Two After Having The Stomach Flu
Simple = best: I find that simple, easy to digest material; noodles, macaroni & spaghetti without sauce, graham crackers, broths, steamed rice, apple sauce, some vegetables & boiled meats are all well tolerated by a recovering gut. Fried foods/acidic juices/milk or cheese & spicy foods will often lead to recurrent cramping or nausea if consumed too early. ...Read more
I have had the stomach flu for three. Its been two days since I've thrown up. I still have no appetite and am weak. How do I get more energy what eat?
Simple carbohydrates: If still nauseated, drinking fluid is more important than eating. However, if you really feel like eating stick to very simple carbs...Soda crackers, white rice, popsicles, bananas. Not teh center of a healthy diet but also don't challenge an inflamed stomach. Even inflamed tissue can absorb simple sugars so you can get some calories. If you vomit, go back to clear liquids. ...Read more
Possibly: If your symptoms don't resolve over the next few days, I would go in for a history and physical exam. Best of luck! ...Read more

A trial of Prilosec (omeprazole) 40 mg a day for 2 months straight will help. Otherwise, an upper endoscopy will help the diagnosis. ...Read more

Fluids and Carbs: It is wise to avoid spicy, acidic, and high-fat foods during illness with nausea/vomiting. Very restricted diet is not recommended because it will limit your calorie intake. When he wakes up: In the morning feeling pretty well, tolerating bananas, rice, applesauce, etc., & having no liquid stool running out of his diaper, take him back to daycare. I don't recommend it: If you are recovering from "stomach flu" and are starting to feel hungry again, no vomiting or diarrhea, it's fine to start adding solids to your diet, however I would take it easy af first. Try something bland, low in fat, and easy to digest (chicken noodle soup, crackers, toast etc) before trying anything oily, fried, or spicy! Your digestive system is recovering, you don't want to shock it! :) ...Read more
