I was recently told tha a new partner can change my body odor. What causes that? Just bacteria?

Don't believe...: ...Everything you hear; it's amazing what people will tell you sometimes. I suppose that a change in partners could introduce a new bacteria or yeast species in the pubic area, which could multiply and affect odor - but just in that area. Certain infections and poor hygiene can also lead to increases in odor; but in general if your hygiene habits don't change, neither will your body odor. ...Read more

I have really bad body odour and I have tried almost all the available anti-persperants and anti-bacterial soaps. My underarms are the major issue.

Body Odor: Bacteria that live on our skin are part of the problem with body odor. Trying to reduce their numbers is a good strategy to reduce their impact. One way to do this is deprive them of nutrients- such as sweat-- hence the utility of antiperspirants. Shaving underarm hair reduces their living space. Could the antibacterial effect of Dial soap be killing off all bacteria in my vagina? I don't take meds and my diet is the same. A weird odor is there

Unlikely: Unless you are putting the antibacterial soap in a douche, it is unlikely to kill the vaginal flora. However, an odor can indicate the presence of Bacterial Vaginosis. This is treated with antibiotics in the doc's office. At home you can try taking pro-biotics, and eating yogurt with live cultures... Best wishes! ...Read more

Why can antiseptic kill bacteria but can't kill virus when children get sick caused by virus? Thanks

Antibiotics: Antiseptics (such as bleach or alcohol) can kill both bacteria and viruses. Antibiotics, on the other hand, are medications that interfere with specific biological processes present only in bacteria (usually the reproduction process), which results in the death of the bacteria. These processes are not present in viruses, which have a different reproductive method, so antibiotics will not work. ...Read more

It will be ok: Very difficult to kill off all of the normal bacteria from your armpit. If if you were somehow able to do this, the normal bacteria from the rest of your body would get back into the armpit region. If were able to somehow get rid of all of the normal bacteria from your skin, bad bacteria could be staph Aureus. But in your case, the friendly bacteria from the rest of your body will seed the armpit. ...Read more
