What To Do When A 7 Month Old Has A Fever And A Cough
Fluids/monitor: Your 7mo is due for 5-7 uri's/yr to age 5 & most can be monitored at home. Playful times/fluid intake enough to wet diapers every 6hr/breathing not too noticable all suggest home care ok. Lack of play/noticable incresaed work to breathe/poor fluid intake all suggest a dr visit in order. Nasal saline helps keep the nose clear & tylenol (acetaminophen) as a comfort med may help. ...Read more
The cough reflex is a protective mechanism that uses muscles in your throat and chest to expel mucous and saliva that may contain pathogens that would otherwise possibly be inhaled via aerosol or to expel pathogens infecting the throat and respiratory system. Cough benefits the host by reducing load and benefits the pathogen which may then spread via aerosol. ...Read more

Would you recommend any vapor products (vapor rub, plugs, bath, etc) for a 7 month old w a bad cold? My son has a low fever, cough, stuffy/runny nose
My 7 month old has an ear infection an seems to be getting worse. Now has a deep cough and sounds painful, runny nose and a fever and very fussy.
My almost 7 month old little boy has been breathing heavily with wet cough, runny nose, and fever. Could the breathing be a sign of rsv?
RSV: Respiratory syncytial virus is most often seen from dec to mar but can be seen at any time. More often in premature and the very young <12 weeks old. Can be associated with day care. Most symptoms are fever, runny nose, cough, wheezing trouble breathing and loss of appetite. Any young infant with fever should be evaluated. It could just be a cold but an examination would be best to check. ...Read more
My 7 month old grandson has a fever of 101.8 also runny nose and cough. Should we call the dr. Or give tylenol (acetaminophen) or wait.
How does he look?: If he is alert, is willing to drink some fluids, wants to cuddle with you and have you read to him that favorite book, he does not need a doctor tonight. Fever is not a disease that needs treatment - it is just one of many symptoms that something is going on. At his age, likely a virus, but if he is not acting right or fever persists, then call your doc tomorrow for further advice. Drink lots! ...Read more

My niece has scarlett fever I have a 7 month old. Is it dangerous to have the baby around my neice or people that have been in contact with my niece?
Not so much: If you have the label then the kid has been diagnosed & should be on treatment. Unless the kid had close contact with the 7mo it would be hard for it to get the Strep A infection that causes it. Contact during the early symptom phaze or 1st 24 hrs on meds would be the vulnerable period. If so the baby would get the rash too. Contact with saliva would be the mode of transfer, not from being nearby. ...Read more
My 7 month old has has diahrrea x 3 days, no fever, slightly more lathargic than usual, eats ok now, what should I do?
Continue formula: As long as the baby is taking in enough fluids that the diaper gets wet every few hours, you can handle most diarrhea with patience. If he refuses to drink, develops fever, vomits frequently, or keeps crying, you need to take him to see the doctor the same day. A baby under a year old should still be having formula or breast milk, so don't replace those exclusively with pedialyte, or similar. ...Read more
My almost 7 month old has had on going fevers for three days the highest one was 102.2. Is it ok to take her outside for fresh air. Well that help?
Possible roseola: If you would like to take your child outside, I get the impression that she is playful despite the high fever. She may be incubating roseola, where kids run a fever for three days and then break out in a rash after the fever breaks. When you go out keep her away from other children. ...Read more
What is the correct dose of Fapanil 250 for 1 year 7 month old baby having fever. We gave 5ml of fapanil 250 every 4.5 hours. Is it ok.
Need weight: I need to know the weight of your baby and not the age to calculate the correct dose of the medication. 250mg seems like a bit high of a dose for a 19month old toddler. Please resubmit question with a weight attached next time. Also, fever does not absolutely need to be "treated" - if child is happy and taking fluids well, just let fever be - it helps fight off infections. ...Read more
So after 4 days of fever my 7 month old daughter has roseola. What should I do? How long does this last?
You are over worst: Once the rash appears, the worst of the illness is already over and done with. As you saw, baby usually has pretty high fever for a few days, then the fever breaks and the rash appears. Now is no longer contagious, and nothing you need to do anymore. The rash will fade on its own in a couple of days. One childhood illness down -? Many to go! ...Read more

Why would my 7 month old get a fever of 103.0? He has hydocephalus and is teething his shunt was put in 2 months ago.
Teething and the symptoms attributed to it are a common concern for parents. Lots of studies have looked at this and shown the most common symptoms of teething to be:
-decreased appetite for solid foods
-slightly elevated temperature (but still under 100.4f orally)
any temperature over 100.4f orally is more likely to be caused by illness, not teething.
Since your child has a shunt, it is important that you call your child's doctor with any fever because a shunt infection is an emergency. ...Read more

Cough: Pertussis is "whooping cough". A disease caused by infection w bordetella pertussis and the symptom that stands out is the intense paroxysm of cough followed by a inspiratory whoop. If your son was vaccinated he may have a milder case that will sound more like croup. It is probably a good idea to see ur peds doc. If your son is not vaccinated call your peds asap and get him examined + tested. ...Read more

My 7 month old is congested in the chest. He's been having fevers for 2 days straight on and off. But not congested in the nose? What can I do?
Pediatrician: I would suggest you use a humidifier overnight and make an appointment with the pediatrician in the morning (due to the fever for 2 days) just to make sure there isn't a bacterial component of the illness. If he has any increased work of breathing/difficulty breathing then seek treatment at ER immediately. ...Read more

My baby is 7 month old. She has a high fever of 103. If its a UTI can I give her cranberry juice?
Probably not enough: A baby with 103 degree fever should not be treated at home. There are too many variables to consider for this to be safe. The most important feature, with the help of a medical professional, is to ascertain exactly what is the source for your baby's fever. Often this requires testing of blood & urine, and possibly even x-rays. Cranberry juice while famous for treating adult utis is not recommended. ...Read more
