What To Do If My Hand Thumb Cut By Thread Can I Use Super Glue
Deep finger cut treatment? I cut my finger deeply yesterday while cutting hair with shears. I was advised by my educator to use super glue but all i own is wood glue and I have no time or money to go see a doctor... What are your recommendations?
Crazy glue: It's great if the skin looks clean, dry and not red. Always a concern about infection, so I would clean the area with peroxide and apply antibiotic ointment. If all fine next day with no redness or discharge, you can try the crazy glue. If the wound looks deep and bleeding should be seen by doctor. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
I cut the very tip of my little finger off while using dull scissors. Do i need to get stitches in my finger by a certain time?
12 hours best: If stitches are needed they are best within 12 hours to minimize infection. Clean it with antiseptic and keep it covered in the meantime. ...Read more
I cut the finger pad of my finger off except for a small amount. I've kept it clean and steri strips. Anything else I can do to help it heal?
Blister: Generally there are two types of blisters, blood filled (deep injury) and fluid filled (superficial). The fluid filled is the most common and can be simply popped and apply triple antibiotic ointment to the area with bandaid. Leave the roof because it will fall off on its own, no need to peel it. If you have a blood blister, see you physician because it may be a bigger injury inside. ...Read more

Help! i can't clean my wound because the gauze is stuck with blood, i don't want to pull out a stitch. Cut to palm of hand yesterday morning.
Depends: Superficial burns just turn the skin red and are painful like a sunburn. Just apply a local anesthetic like solarcaine. If it blisters, it is a deeper burn and needs to be kept clean. I would not break the blisters but if they open then the loose skin should be pulled off and an antibiotic ointment like Bacitracin applied till it heals. A full thickness burn will turn white and not have any pain. ...Read more
Should you use just any regular razor to shave my legs and what type of cream could I use? I'm really scared to cut myself (about to be my 1st time
Any is probably ok: Shaving for the first time can be a bit nerve wracking! Be sure to use a new razor (will have a sharp blade and give you a better shave). The first time you should shave in the direction of hair growth (down on the legs) and use a shaving cream. I would avoid the bumpy areas like knees and ankles the first couple of times and use caution going over the shin bone. ...Read more
I was cutting a branch and the saw slipped and cut my index finger. I'm not sure if i'm up to date on tetanus, but i cleaned the wound fast. Should i go to urget care?
Prevention: Most of us in us have been immunized against tetanus (lockjaw) but a good rule of thumb is every ten years for booster and 5 years for tetanus prone area or very dirty wound. Cleaning it quickly is not enough especially since you are not sure if your booster is up to date. Better to be safe and stay healthy! be well. ...Read moreSee 4 more doctor answers
A word of advice: I have found over the years that when patients try to adjust or fix their own partial or full dentures, not only does it not hold, but they often get themselves in more trouble and are sorry they every tried! what often is a simple fix, becomes a more complicated and more costly repair to those adventurous patients. ...Read moreSee 7 more doctor answers

I rarely get injured so when I do I'm often unsure of what to do. I recently nicked my skin by ankle while shaving and I am wondering is it better to keep bandaid over it at all times or should I remove it to 'let it breathe'?
Bandaid not necessar: Most cuts on the hands heal in 5-6 days. Band aids are helpful initially like the first 24 to 48 hours. After that the band aid may be harmful as the area needs to breathe and remain dry in order to keep the infection away. Watch for any liquid discharge from the cut. it can be a sign of infection requiring further medical attention. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Any tips on how to get this splinter out of my finger. It hurts and i keep squeezing and my tweezers don't work because i can't bring it to surface.
Ouch!: Sometimes just leaving it alone will do the trick. However, if you can't wait a sharp small incision over the site will often allow the splinter a way out. Also could soak finger in epsom salts. This creates an osmotic gradient which might help. Keep an eye out for infection - redness, swelling, warmth, pain, red streaks and more than a little discharge. If this occurs - game over - see doc. ...Read more
Burn treatment: Any burn requires treatment. The type of treatment depends upon the extent and severity of the burn. Minor burns can be treated with non-prescription antibiotic ointment after cleansing with soap and water. Minor burns are slightly red without a blister or opening in the skin. Deep or extensive burns should be evaluated by a doctor as more treatment may be needed. ...Read more
