Could a large solid bump at the base of my tongue be a tumor? It is far back, almost into my throat and touch my uvula. I have a sore throat too and my tongue is a little sore. I have noticed it before but it seemed to have gone away.

Could a large solid bump at the base of my tongue be a tumor? It is far back, almost into my throat and touch my uvula. I have a sore throat too and my tongue is a little sore. I have noticed it before but it seemed to have gone away.

Need Consultation: Too many variables present to just wait. Get and appointment with and oral surgeon for an evaluation (possible biopsy) of this bump. This may be a nuisance or it could be very serious. However the serious side is significant to warrant to know what it is now! Read more

Will a doctor prescribe pain meds for canker sore on uvula?

Will a doctor prescribe pain meds for canker sore on uvula?

Usually NSAIDS work: I routinely prescribe nsaids to control pain from canker sores during the 3-5 days that they are uncomfortable. In rare cases, called "major aphthae" I will prescribe a short course of oral corticosteroid--especially if the lesion/s interfere with swallowing or speech. The uvula is part of the palate and can be very uncomfortable. If Ibuprofen doesn't control pain, call your dentist for help. G/l! Read more
