Hematoma: Following acl surgery especially if your own (autologous) bone patellar tendon bone graft is taken swelling, bruising in the ankle is not uncommon. Just make sure that you are not having any sharp calf pain where a doppler ultrasound would be helpful to be performed to rule out a blood clot.

Why is my foot so swollen after knee surgery?

Why is my foot so swollen after knee surgery?

DVT: Your foot is probably swollen from the trauma of knee surgery, but it can be swollen from a blood clot in your leg, which can be extremely dangerous. Deep venous thrombus can have formed in one of the deep veins in your leg causing the swelling in your foot. Knee surgery puts you at a very high risk for this. It can be very dangerous as this can progress to a pulmonary embolism. So get checked out.

I had arthoscopic knee surgery 4 weeks ago and my ankles are swollen. Is this normal? What should I do?

I had arthoscopic knee surgery 4 weeks ago and my ankles are swollen. Is this normal? What should I do?

Be seen: I would certainly let your surgeon know. The most common cause if it involves both sides is that you have retained fluid still from your surgery. While you are having surgery you get IV fluids that can third space into your soft tissues and gradually resolves. But other causes such as heart or kidney failure, medication reaction, or blood clot are possible. So make sure your surgeon is aware.

Is it normal for my foot to be swollen 3 days after knee surgery?

Yes: That is not uncommon, however if the swelling gets worse or you are having calf pain contact your doctor as there would be concern about a blood clot.

I had knee surgery to replace remove some broken hardware (bone staple) a month ago and my upper leg is still quite swollen - thigh and glute.?

I had knee surgery to replace remove some broken hardware (bone staple) a month ago and my upper leg is still quite swollen - thigh and glute.?

See your surgeon.: Hardware removal can certainly be traumatic to the involved extremity, but to have significant swelling above the surgical site such as the hip and buttock may represent more than simple post-operative swelling. I would recommend follow-up evaluation with your surgeon to ensure there is no sign of infection or DVT (deep venous thrombosis). Better to be safe than sorry! See your surgeon.

I had knee surgery 2 weeks ago and my foot feels like an ice cube why? My calf also hurts a little bit, but not red hot or swollen could it be a dvt?

I had knee surgery 2 weeks ago and my foot feels like an ice cube why? My calf also hurts a little bit, but not red hot or swollen could it be a dvt?

Ice cube foot: Any of the things you are describing should be evaluated by your surgeon sooner rather than later. Especially since your calf also hurts. Call right away and head for an er if your surgeon should be unavailable. Good luck.

Is knock knee surgery at the age of 16 safe? And though I have knock knees operation my ankles touch and I hv no issues on running..

See ankle specialist: Although most ortho will likely tell that that if you have no pain or functional limitation, you should wait. However if you are really concerned, consult an ortho with specialty on the foot/ankle area.

Can having a swollen ankle give you knee pain? I had knee surgery 3 yrs ago and my ankle swells up now so I wondered if that's why my knee still hurts.

Can having a swollen ankle give you knee pain? I had knee surgery 3 yrs ago and my ankle swells up now so I wondered if that's why my knee still hurts.

Probably unrelated: Until the ankle is painful and changes your gait and puts increased stress on the knee, the issues are unrelated. Get the knee reevaluated.

I had knee surgery about a year ago and since then I have had to wear a knee brace every day my knee hurts all the time and my calf stays swollen up?

I had knee surgery about a year ago and since then I have had to wear a knee brace every day my knee hurts all the time and my calf stays swollen up?

See details.: This is obviously not a normal result from what I assume to be arthroscopic surgery. You should not still need a brace and should not be in pain. Calf swelling can be secondary to phlebitis or the rupture of a popliteal cyst among other causes. Get a 2nd opinion. I would strongly recommend a new MRI if you have not recently had one done.

My husband had knee surgery 5 days ago. He has fluid under his knee cap. Tonight, the other leg/ankle is swelling badly. Should he be seen at ER?

My husband had knee surgery 5 days ago. He has fluid under his knee cap. Tonight, the other leg/ankle is swelling badly. Should he be seen at ER?

Maybe: No info about husband's age, medical problems, type of surgery, etc. The fluid under knee cap is probably not of concern UNLESS the skin over it has become red, hot, swollen, and very tender, or if fever. The OTHER leg being swollen is more concerning. If he has any calf or leg tenderness on that side, please go to ER right away to make sure no blood clot. Good luck!

Should the swelling be gone? I had arthroscopic knee surgery to repair a torn meniscus 2 weeks ago, and my knee is still swollen at times. Is that something I should be concerned about?

Should the swelling be gone? I had arthroscopic knee surgery to repair a torn meniscus 2 weeks ago, and my knee is still swollen at times. Is that something I should be concerned about?

It: It will usually take a few weeks for the swelling to subside. If you have some arthritis as well as a meniscus tear it can take longer for the fluid in your knee to be absorbed. At two weeks post-operation I would not be too worried about having an occasionally swollen knee.

Try NSAIDs first: The WHO paid ladder is applicable here. Try NSAID or acetaminophen first, and then if the pain is not contained see your doctor who pay use a more potent NSAID or trial you on an opioid. Depending on how long ago you had the surgery, the cause of the persistent problem should possibly be assessed to rule out infection.

I just had arthroscopic knee surgery and all the fluid from my knee pooled down in my calf and around my ankle and is causing numbness in the foot?

I just had arthroscopic knee surgery and all the fluid from my knee pooled down in my calf and around my ankle and is causing numbness in the foot?

Compartment syndrome: It is unlikely that the fluid went down your leg. It is more likely that you are having a vascular complications from the surgery and you should go to your emergency room immediately for an ultrasound examination. There's a condition called compartment syndrome which is a surgical emergency.
