Rather, i suspect you may have wrist swelling due to some other cause (trauma, arthritis, fluid retention, etc) that is predisposing you to compress the median nerve and cause carpal tunnel. Unlikely: Carpal tunnel is caused by entrapment of the median nerve in the carpal canal. It produces numbness and tingling in the thumb, index, middle and half of the ring finger. Swelling can be a component, but carpal tunnel at your age is extremely rare and usually due to a secondary cause. If this doesn't improve for you, i'd see a hand surgeon. ...Read more
