What should I do about pain after cortisone injection to ankle joint?

What should I do about pain after cortisone injection to ankle joint?

Steroid flare: I always inform my patients that cortisone injections have possible side effects including a steroid flare. This is characterized by pain following a steroid injection. This normally resolves in 1-2 days and can be treated with simple things like ice, elevation and restricted weightbearing. If the pain persists I would contact your doctor since many other things can cause pain.

No Concern: There's no concern applying it after a cortisone shot, however it will not help with the inflammation if that is your intended use. Aczone is indicated for acne and should only be applied to those areas where acne is occurring.

How long does it take to heal synovitis of the foot after a cortisone injection?

How long does it take to heal synovitis of the foot after a cortisone injection?

1-5 days: Steriod injections for synovitis of the foot are used quite often. Certain steroid preparations are soluble and can work within 24 hours but their effect can be short lived. Depo forms (long acting /locally acting) can take up to 5-7 days to have their full effect since the steroid slowly dissolves or time. Wearing a brace or restricting activity of the foot can speed up the end result.

Hard to say: A meniscal tear will not heal, but a cortisone shot may help decrease the swelling sometime it takes a week or so to have the swelling go down realistically the onlly way to cure the problem is to do an arthroscopic meniscectomy.

Should I abstain fromtaking oral anti inflammatorys after having a cortisone injection?

Depends on your need: The goal of the cortisone injection is to decrease your symptoms to the point where you don't need to take anti- inflammatories. That being said, a short course, if you need them is okay. Ask your doctor which one you should take, at what dose, and for how long.

Had a cortisone injection 2 months ago with intolerance how long can the cortisone stay in my body?

Long gone: While some steroids last longer in your blood stream than others, all steroids froom oral Prednisone to injectable triamcinolone would be long gone from your body, even after one week. You could not possibly be having issues after two months!

Do you need a referral to get a cortisone injection?

Maybe (not). . .: Most of us docs are based in the states w/o much knowledge of australia's rules & regulations. Over here, injections are typically not available w/o prescription. This includes cortisone. Most family docs can prescribe cortisone injections and have their nurse administer it. Depending upon where injection goes, s/he might refer to pain specialist, orthopedic surgeon, etc.
