What To Do About A Hot Coffee Hand Burn
Like a sunburn: Unless the burn is severe (heavily blistered, areas of numbness), treat it like a sunburn. Keep it clean, apply wet washcloths for the first few days, and apply a mild emollient cream if you want to. Silvadene (silver sulfadiazine) cream, which is often prescribed for burns, is unnecessary for superficial ones. Antibiotic ointments like neosporin & Bacitracin are also unnecessary. Like a sunburn, the area will peel. ...Read more

Hi...can I get same effect with coffee to burn fat if I drink hot cocoa from cocoa powder without sugar?
No: Hershey's Unsweetened Cocoa Powder's label says it has 1.5 gram of fat and 3 grams of protein in each 3 tablespoons of powder. That's enough to make a cup of hot cocoa with water, but it will taste "bad" without milk and at least a little sugar. In any case, it has more calories than coffee has. Furthermore, the only way to "burn fat" is by eating fewer calories than a body needs each day. ...Read more
Hi doctor, I would like to ask does hot chocolate without sugar can burn fat like coffee do? Thank you
Chocolate: Can help you burn calories but the effect is minimal. The chocolate needs to be DARK chocolate (about 80% strength). Milk chocolate will not help. Ask you doc about a low carb higher protein food plan. Peace and good heath. ...Read more

My hands and feet are always burning up. Even in the winter. It is so hot that I can't even sleep. What can cause this?
Acrodynia: The best sense I can make out of the symptoms you report is a rare condition called "acrodynia" (which means painful hands & feet). This is usually due to heavy metal poisoning like from mercury, etc. Otherwise you may have a painful peripheral neuropathy, which can be due to something like a cyst in the spinal cord or from unknown causes. Best to see a doctor to clarify. ...Read more
How do you treat ice burns on skin? They are 2 days old and still red and swollen. Area is about half the size of my hand.
Frostbite: Since they are 2 days old, they are probably already rewarmed. Treat the area like a thermal burn. Keep it covered with dry sterile dressings. If blisters develop, seek medical attention. What kind of OTC medication should I get for a minor burn? The back of my hands are burnt from prolonged exposure to warm-hot water.
When I touch something hot with my rt hand (pizza slice), the burning feels amplified, left hand normal. Could this be pinched nerve, or worse?
Stop!: Sensations may change as a result of 'pinched nerves' but it's not likely that this would be the only or main symptom. Certainly, don't catastrophize to even worse!! If you are right-handed and the variance is not extreme - you might just be more tuned-in to that hand's signals. If you suffered a recent spinal injury that prompted this concern - have an exam. ...Read more

I spilled a lot of laundry detergent on my hand and rinsed it off. Should I be concerned about chemical burns or anything like that?
You should be ok: Laundry detergent is just soap, so you should not have to worry about getting a chemical burn. Of course it is important to wash off, but you should be fine as long as you do so. If you spilled bleach or some other harsh chemical then you might need to be more concerned, but even then, as long as you wash well you will probably be fine.
