What Tests Are Done In A Lupus Panel
I just had a bunch of blood work done, including a lupus panel and some others? Cost a fortune. Why?
Tests: Lupus test can be expensive as the ingredients for the tests have to be specially made, use ultraviolet light to read, may involve using rare chemicals to do the test and have to be tested by the fda before being released to use on people. Technicians have to be paid for as well as expensve machinery. ...Read more

Lab + Clinical: I have many patients followed for years with one or two positives on the lupus panel and no disease whatsoever. We do not know if we are having false positives or seeing very early possibility of disease, that make take years to show any features. The degree of positivity is however correlated with activity. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
For many years now, I have been suffering from connective tissure disorder. I had a lupus panel twice but it was never confirmed. What could be my prob?
Impossible to say: How can you expect anyone to begin to answer your question when you provide no specifics? ...Read more
Non specific: An ANA can certainly and most likely positive in lupus. However, it can be seen in many rheumatic diseases and other illnesses. Anas can be seen in normal people also. However more specific tesing can be more helpful and more specifc for lupus. They include a sm or smith antibody which is specific for lupus. A high dsdna and low c3 and c4 are again good tests for lupus. Other tests exist also. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Unlikely: In young people, the most common cause of this type of pain is muscular strain. Very rarely pain in this area can be referred from an organ in the chest. If the lining if the lungs or heart are inflamed, occasionally you can get mid back pain. In lupus, this type of inflammation can occur. However, the ANA test is sensitive: many people have it but only a few have a disease associated with it. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Is there a link between a high ANA and cancer ? Cbc ok metabolic ok. Thyroid ok. And lupus panel neg?
Ana + spec pattern titer 1:640. All labs ok. Lupus panel neg. Elevated sed rate. 2 rheum drs dismissed it. Anything else I should do? Cancer?
Is it safe to dismiss a positive ANA speckled with a titer of 1:640 if CBC ok. Lupus panel negative. Metabolic ok. Urine ok. Serum protein ok?
Yes and no: We have a saying in pathology / lab medicine, "treat the person, not the labs." plenty of healthy folks have medium-titer speckled ana's. The real question is, "do we want to treat you for lupus or whatever, with all the unpleasantness that this involves?" i think the answer is "no" based on what you're shared if your physician agrees. Remember the ANA should new symptoms develop. Good question. ...Read more
My temp after i get to work is 99.1-99.4 . Evening and over night normal. I am ANA +1:640 spec pattern. High sed rate. Cbc ok. Metabolic ok. Serum protein ok. Lupus panel neg. Up back pain 1yr. Mri ok?
Yes: Mri is fine but be prepared for normal results. An elevated sed rate and ANA may indicate an inflammatory process in the body. A thorough work up would include hormone evaluation, sleep patterns, infection/immune system testing as well as nutrition review. These presentations can be frustrating so find a doctor that will take the time to listen and evaluate. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
