Diagnosed Hashimoto's Feb'13, on thyroxine since. Test last week show normal TSH, T3, (liothyronine) T4 levels but 12 nodule goitre found. What could the nodules be?
"pseudo" nodules: The typical ultrasound finding of Hashimoto's is "heterogeneous texture". This appears as a very irregular look. As this progresses, one starts to see areas that are darker or lighter than the rest of the thyroid and can look like nodules. However, many times they are not true nodules, and are referred to as "pseudo" nodules. They are typically under 1 cm in size. Above 1 cm, they may need biopsy ...Read more

Since you have a positive PPD skin test and lung imaging that has a solitary nodule, I would suggest that you have airway fluid cultures sent to a microbiology lab.

Many options: Depends on age, size of nodule, history, and smoking history. Options include do nothing (rare), pet scan if there is risk for cancer, follow up cts at intervals determined by experienced md. Biopsies and surgery can come, but generally after above steps. Most nodules (>95%) are not cancer, and therefore invasive procedures should be reserved for when suspicion (guided by above factors) is high. ...Read more
Thyroid US shows 1cm nodule, heterogeeous, hypoechoic, irregular borders. Could this be malignant?
Could be, but ...: Usually the bad ones are larger and solid. The definitive test is always a biopsy. An U/S finding is just suggestive or not. Discuss the results with your doc and the ultrasonographer. Good luck and best wishes! ...Read more
Ultrasound: First test is usually an echocardiogram, which is a simple, office based ultrasound of the heart. If a more detailed look is needed, an echo done through a swallowed probe, called a transepohogeal echocardiogram may be helpful. Other imaging modalities such as ct or MRI may be helpful in specialized centers. If the nodule causes significant narrowing (stenosis) a direct pressure gradient. ...Read more

Without knowing more specifics, and depending on the age and health of the pt, a prostate biopsy (the most definitive diagnostic test) would usually be recommended next, the pros and cons of which should be discussed with a urologist to reach a mutual understanding and agreement. ...Read more

Also used to be: Called a coin lesion. A solitary pulmonary nodule may be a primary cancer, or a granuloma or other benign things like a hamartoma or interlobar node. It also may the cause of "false positives" on ct-chest screening. Multiple nodules draw suspicion to traveled tumors. Difficult: Thyroid nodules are very common. Under 1 cm, they are usually observed, meaning a repeat Ultrasound in one year. A FNA is difficult to actually target and sample such a small lesion. U/s shows dominant 27mm×15×13 Nodule wih heterogeneous prominent blood flow...2 small nodules other lobe..they were hyoerechoic.I'm scared it's cancer?
Nodules: I assume these nodules are on your thyroid gland. As you have multiple nodules, the odds are more in favor of it not being cancer, but any nodule larger than1cm or 10 mm should be evaluated and followed and likely biopsied to rule out cancer. I would recommend seeing an endocrinologist to discuss laboratory work/thyroid scan and a possible biopsy of that larger nodule. ...Read more

I'm worried about having a thyroid fna this week. U/s shows calcification and hypoechoic nodule that is increasing in size. What is the worst case ?
I have a 4cm (mixed) thyroid nodule with a biopsy result of "follicular lesion". I'm a 23 year old healthy female. Is surgery the right path to take?
Probably: The thyroid gland is one composed of glandular tissue. When a solitary lesion appears with the components representing follicles of thyroid tissue, this may be a transforming lesion. The rule is that a solitary lesion may be or converting to cancer while the presence of multiple nodules represents goiter. A solitary lesion should be resected . ...Read more
