Heart failure is a complex set of conditions in which the heart "fails" to pump a normal amount of blood with each beat. This can be due to poor squeezing function (systolic heart failure) and/or a stiff heart incapable of filling normally (diastolic heart failure). Common symptoms include swelling and trouble breathing, particularly when ...Read more
The tests for Heart failure include:: Electrocardiogram, Echocardiogram, Xray of chest, Complete blood count, Thyroid blood tests, Comprehensive metabolic panel, Troponin, B type natriuretic peptide, Liver function test, Lipid panel, Cardiac catheterization, Right heart catheterization, Basic metabolic panel, Heart biopsy, Probnp, N terminal. ...Read more
Yes: The heart is a very dynamic organ. Any evaluation is only accurate during the test. For instance heart failure can be very dependent on extra fluid in your body. If the test was done when fluid volume is low then it may not be worrisome. But the next day after eating too much salty food then your volume increases and now your heart shows signs of failure. Fortunately this doesn't happen a lot. ...Read more
Bnp test 88. normal is under 125. But my last reading 7 months ago was 33. Does that mean I am getting heart failure?
The variation you described is not clinically meaningful.
For good health - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Drink enough water daily, so that your urine is mostly colorless. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form.
Practice safe sex, if you have sex. ...Read more
Does an echo and short stress test show if I have a bad heart or heart failure? I'm 18 male. Scared to excercise because my rest BPM is 120
Heart tests: An echo shows if your heart is enlarged or if wall muscle is damaged or if the valves are not functioning right. Stress test checks for blockage in blood vessels to the heart. Sounds like you may need a holter monitor to check the rhythm and then treatment of your elevated rhythm and thyroid tests to rule out over active thyroid. Best wishes. ...Read more
What are the risks of General Anesthetic? IE: why do they often avoid? Is there a risk of heart failure? My heart tests are all good and strong.
If you have congestive heart failure.......Would that be seen in an echocardiogram at rest? If not, what tests or such can detect then.
Congestive aheart fa: The diagnosis of congestive heart failure is mstly clinical with edema, shortness of breath, engorged neck veins, liver enlargement and rales in lungs on auscultation.Xray chest, bnp test on blood elevated is done some times and resting echocardiogram is helpful in defining the ejection fraction and other imaging. So resting echo will be helpful along with all others. ...Read more

What are the symptoms and tests for diastolic heart failure? My EKG is irregular, echo seemed okay, I was told I have a sinus tach from a reg place.
Confused: Hello, again, undiagnosed1! diastolic heart failure is present when heart failure is confirmed (by symptoms, chest x-ray, and sometimes b-natriuretic peptide measurement (bnp)) in the presence of normal systolic function (ejection fraction>55%). Sinus tach is a regular rhythm so if your ekg is irregular, you have something else or in addition to sinus tach. ...Read more
Ongoing pain in chest, have hyperthyroid , have had stress echo 36year old male can I still have heart failure with good stress test?
I had 2 EKG & 2 blood & 1 xray work done 2 different times. Im very short of breath when i lay down would those test show heart failure or enlargment?
Echocardiogram: An ekg can demonstrate heart rhythm and enlargement of the heart chambers but cannot detect congestive heart failure. An echocardiogram will show the status of the heart muscle strength or weakness as well as size of the chambers and status of the heart valves. A chest xray will show more advanced heart failure. Your md has this information and can advise you best. ...Read more

Is an echocardiogram stress test EKG and Chest X Ray enough to discard any heart related problem such as heart failure?

Besides spirometry test, x ray, echocardiogram at rest, are there any other tests to detect heart failure? Blood tests? Stress test?
A cardiac catheterization can determine heart function as well as measure pressures. Spirometry measures lung function, not heart failure. Sometimes this is checked to rule out pulmonary dysfunction as a contributor to the patient's problems. Nuclear scans and specialized ct scans can also give this information.
As already mentioned, there is also a blood test called bnp. ...Read more

Talk to your MD:
There are many causes of heart failure, some can be treated and cured, and others are a life long disease. Make sure to follow up with your local cardiologist to rule out any reversible causes.

Depends on type: it depends upon the type of HF you have. sometimes there are reversible factors, sometimes the HF is due to damage to the heart. Heart Failure is a poor term in that it is very general - kind of like using "cancer" as a term - obviously there are different treatments and outlooks for lung, breast, skin, or prostate cancer - Heart Failure is an analogous situation. ...Read more
