Methotrexate can sometimes cause liver damage and, since alcohol can also cause liver damage, this is why mixing the two is not recommended. Just go easy: Some migraines are provoked by alcohol, especially red wine. If one of your adverse effects from topamax (topiramate) is sedation, the alcohol will make it far worse.
