How does salmonella typhimurium attack and spread?

How does salmonella typhimurium attack and spread?

Fecal-oral spread: Salmonella in general spreads be the fecal-oral route, usually in underdeveloped areas. People with it who live in areas without adequate sanitation or plumbing may end up stooling in areas near public or private water supplies. Or even in developed areas, they may not wash their hands well. The bacteria get into water or onto food and get ingested by the next person, who becomes the next victim.

Where does salmonella typhimurium hide?

Where does salmonella typhimurium hide?

Salmonella carrier: Typhoid fever, or enteric fever, is caused by a number of salmonella strains. Chronic carrier state is defined as persistence of bacteria in stool or urine for >1 year. Up to 4% of patients with s.Typhi become carriers--highest in women, with biliary or urologic abnormalities (biliary or kidney stones), or concurrent bladder infection with schistosoma. Sometimes gallbladder removal is needed.

Can potato salad cause salmonella typhimurium?

Can potato salad cause salmonella typhimurium?

The most usual: salmonella pathogen is salmonella enterica, subtypes of which cause food poisoning. Salmonella typhimurium causes gastrointestinal symptoms when the bacteria is ingested typically from contamination from diseased poultry, hogs and cattle or fecal contamination from food handlers. So the mayonnaise/potato salad source would not be expected for this organism. Hope this is helpful:)

What body system does the salmonella bacteria attack?

Gut mostly: The usual case of salmonellosis affects the intestines. Rarely, salmonella can affect organs outside the gut.

Can it be possible to have an immune system against salmonella?

Antibodies?: You can get an antibody assay against nearly all known viruses and bacteria. However Samonella infection mostly affects the surface of the intestinal tract and thus the presence of protective antibody in the blood may not be that meaningful.

Does a really strong immune system prevent a stomach virus or bacterial infection such as salmonella, e. Coli, etc...?

Does a really strong immune system prevent a stomach virus or bacterial infection such as salmonella, e. Coli, etc...?

It depends: Salmonella and e coli can devastate even the strongest individual. Symptoms from these infections depend on the how strong the exposure is to these organisms and the over all health of the patient. If the exposure is small enough then it is possible that no symptoms will occur. If the exposure is still small but the recipient is already weakened from something else then problems may occur.

How does salmonella typhemerium spread and attack. What is the degree of damage for it. Is there any cure of it?

Good Question!: Poor sanitation, food handling, and hand washing all contribute to the spread of salmonella. This bacteria attacks the cells of the intestinal tract, killing them- this can possibly lead to bloody diarrhea. Ciprofloxacin is an example of an antibiotic used to cure a patient with the infection.

What are the symptoms when you get salmonella?

Diarrhea, fever: Salmonella bacteria may cause mild to severe diarrhea, abdominal pain, fever, and vomiting for several days. Prolonged infections are infrequent, but can be quite serious, particularly in the very young or elderly. Infection with salmonella typhi can also lead to the development of typhoid fever, an infection that is best treated with antibiotics.

Can salmonella contaminate your garbage disposal?

Can salmonella contaminate your garbage disposal?

Yes: The drain, and plug of kitchen sink can get quite funky. Studies confirm high bacterial counts (comparable to a toilet) no reason to think disposal any "cleaner". Disinfect: run cold water for several minutes; pour 1- 2 cups of chlorine bleach into drain, let sit for 10m, hot water for 2m; disposal? : turn it on during flush. 2x/wk. Clean out debris daily; plug in dishwasher; liquid soap.
