What Supplements Should You Take On A Very Low Calorie Diet
I'm on a low calorie diet to lose weight but when I exercise (walk), I feel tired sometimes. Do I need to add a vitamin supplement?
Refers to all the physical matter humans (like all living creatures) must take in on a recurring basis; only partially for energy. Like all life on planet humans are open systems which keep tearing down their structure & require intake of atoms/molecules from which to rebuild their structure. Intestinal lining cells replaced ~every 3 days. CaPO4 in bones ~every 6 years, ...Read more
Tissue breakdown: Very low calorie diets puts a person in ketosis. The body does not have the proper amounts of protein, carbohydrates and fat to carry out all the functions it has to do. You will lose fat, for sure, but you will do this at the expense of losing protein, thus muscle breakdown. A very low calorie diet shold not be undertaken unless under the care of a doctor well versed in the diet and close f/u. ...Read more
I've been on a very low calorie diet for the past 10 days (been busy + have just forgotten food) will I put on weight if I start to eat normal again?
If moderate exercise: If one does some mild or moderate exercise, for 30-40 minutes, 3-4 times a week, she will likely stimulate his muscles enough to maintain them. On a "very low" calorie diet, she can get into trouble if the calories are too few (his body may break down muscle for fuel). Thus, "very low" calorie diets should be adjusted into "moderately low" calorie diets, which also have better long-term success. ...Read more
Yes: Weight gain can be prevented or overcome by a permanent change in lifestyle and in personal outlook. If a person eats fewer calories than he needs to live on each day, his body will use the stored fuel (fat). If a person exercises more than he did before, but does not start eating more calories, then his body will use up the fat (stored fuel). Easier said than done, but definitely possible to do. ...Read more
When you do a very low calorie diet you change your metabolism into a starvation mode.
Therefore, the body is going to have to adapt. Thyroid included. It can be dangerous to do this without medical supervision. Many times I have had patients try this on their own and end up with a Gallbladder attack. Have not had thyroid issues in my practice. ...Read more
I can't manage to lose anymore weight and I'm really getting worried. I'm on a very low calorie diet and workout everyday. What's wrong?
Just out of curiosity is it possible to be on a very low calorie diet but not lose weight if consuming too much foods that cause bloating like sodium?
Bloating can be a: Sign of food allergies or gluten intolerance. Have yourself tested to make sure you know what you're allergic too. It's not the calories consumed, but the proportion of carbs to protein that will help you loose weight. Less than 1/2 cup of carbs is good with 2/3 of your plate with organic veges of 5 colors, and 4 oz of protein, lots of purified water after your meal. 1/4 cup fruit/day. Good luck! ...Read more

Can a very low calorie diet followed by amenorrhea for 8 months at an age of 14 cause incompetent cervix or/and infertility?
Not for young kids: Obese young children who are still growing in height can stay on a low (not extremely low) calorie balanced diet. They should lose enough weight to drop down from the "severely obese" BMI range, into the "obese" range. Then, they can take advantage of their height growth combined with moderate caloric restriction, to gradually drop into the "normal" BMI range over a 1-2 year period. Exercise too! ...Read more
Will a week of refeed (eating about 3000 calorie aday) will reset metabolism after very low calorie diet?
It depends: On your height, weight, sex, age and metabolic rate. On average a young male on a very low calorie diet (800 kcal/day) can lose up to 4-5 lbs. In a week (female 2-3 lbs./week). The heavier the start weight, the more the weight loss, unless an underlying disease like low thyroid function is in place. With intense exercise (cardio and weights) the weight loss can be more obviously. ...Read more
Medically supervised very low calorie diet (800 calories). Ok to exercise. Principle of ketosis. Burn about 400 cal/day/hr monitor. Safe?
No safe shortcuts: This type of diet often makes the body angry, decreasing calories too much too quickly will send your body into starvation mode. Less calories = weight loss, but your body will become more efficient at holding onto calories, so you will gain the weight back and then some later on. Weight watchers is the safest and most consistent in my experience with thousands of people. ...Read more
Difficult: Low-carb diet is likely to promote weight loss, at least at first, but risky. Weight loss may or may not continue long term, depending on your commitment to following the eating plan. Short answer: It seems logical that if calories are the problem, you would want to eat as few of them as possible to speed weight loss. As a general rule, people need a minimum of 1, 200 calories daily to stay healthy. People who have a strenuous fitness routine or perform many daily activities need more calories. If you have reduced your calorie intake below 1, 200 calories a day, you could be hurting your body ...Read more

The real issue is KEEPING THE WEIGHT OFF. I recommend people find a diet they can actually stay on for LIFE. Lower calories, increasing exercise, avoiding processed foods, and drinking at least 64 oz of water. That's a diet for life! ...Read more
Meditteranean: In many cases the low cal diet can signal to the thyroid that you are in starvation mode thus preventing weight loss. A surer way to lose weight is by eating a meditteranean style diet minus any grains containing gluten and including low glycemic foods. Probably not: It wold depend on the amount of protein you consume and how much you work out to develop and keep the muscles. Low calorie diets may not supply the anount of carbs, protein and fat you will need to maintain. It would depend on your height and weight and age. I would be very careful, work with a reputable sports trainer, sports medicine doctor and reputable nutritionist. Danger! Will robinson! ...Read more
