My friend used meth 1 time at 18 weeks pregnant, very small amount, will it show in babies meconium at birth, if she delivers at full term. In 22 week?
Meconium starts: Forming between 12-16 weeks. The Chicago-based lab we used when I worked for the NV State Health Division claimed that their assay could detect illicit drugs in meconium used 6 months prior to delivery. A temporary decrease in oxygen from a "hit" of meth may cause permanent damage in some areas of the fetal brain. Encourage her to 'fess up, for her baby's sake & to get addiction counseling. ...Read more

Impossible to say: Depends on age and risk factors, but chest pain associated with methamphetamine use can always be cardiac in origin, and your friend needs to get checked out by her PCP or an urgent care setting. You might benefit from a few Alanon meetings to learn how to handle your own emotions about your friend, and to not enable her drug use. She needs help and I hope that she gets it soon, before more harm. ...Read more
I'm five months pregnant and my last day of meth use was today, will it still show up in my babies system once born?
Depends: Examination of the urine of an infant will usually not show meth if stopped 2 weeks or more before delivery. If the stool is examined, it may retain evidence of meth use for several months. Stay clean & you can avoid a multitude of problems for baby & might not end up loosing the child as a cps case. ...Read more

My longtime childhood friend is currently 26 weeks pregnant She has been using meth on and off her whole pregnancy! She wants to know if she stops now if it will show in the babies system when delivered?
If I look: If she stops, it is healthier for her & the baby may actually survive the pregnancy. If mom draws attention to herself by being a known user, having drugie friends visit or for other reasons the Child & Family Services people have her on their radar she will have trouble. I can find evidence of any drug exposure in baby back to about 20 wks. If she gets clean & stays clean they may not look. ...Read more
Will taking 1 hit of meth at 18 weeks pregnant show up in babies meconium at birth in 22 weeks? Never used again? She will be tested, along with baby.
Think. Where will it all go, or `accumulate? But In Meconium which begins to form, I believe around 12 th or 16th wk. Drugs can be detected in Meconium by second trimester. If you stay clean and your UDS continues to be negative, they may not test Meconium.
But are you asking this question for yourself or for your Baby, that little helpless, precious being expecting all protection from Mama. ...Read more
I'm 38 weeks pregnant. My dr. Is aware that I struggle with addiction. He said he will test the baby when he is born, how long does meth stay in my babies system? And if I'm clean, does the dr have the right to test the baby.
Yes: If you consumed any drugs after 20 wks gestation the doc is likely to find evidence in babies system. Both you and baby are subject the child protection laws of the state. The doc is required by that law to act on any suspicion of drug exposure to protect that baby's life as a new citizen. If you have remained clean, no problem, if not, you must deal with it. Baby can also show drug withdrawal. ...Read more

Hard to say: The baby's GI tract becomes mature and starts to produce meconium by 16 weeks, so it is possible. If you are not in any form of treatment program, GET INTO ONE. Even if you have been successful since using methamphetamine that time, without treatment the odds are very high you may use again. A treatment program can not only help you, but can vouch for your remaining abstinent when CPS comes. ...Read more

Depends: Could be from 5 to 10 days depending on your metabolism. On the other hand without sounding like a scold, doing meth and worrying about it is just as detrimental to your health & well being. Meth detectable in poop: But read this from a website I found, :i used to work in a medical foster home for drug-affected babies who were taken at birth by the state. Most of these babies required 24 hour nursing care. I think the real question is not "will the drugs still be in the baby's system" but "how affected will this baby be by the drugs it's mommy was taking? " I could not agree more. It will be detectable in the babies first poop called meconium. ...Read more

Methamphetamine and its breakdown products in the mother's blood will be passed into the fetus' system through the placenta. Of concern is the: Fact that "meth" travels through uterine arteries to placenta & fetus.
