What Should My White Blood Cell Count Be
My white blood cell count was 6.25... Is this normal or low? Is it okay to take prednisone for poison ivy with this WBC count?
Leukopenia : Leukopenia could be a normal variant especially in African-American people. Most common causes of Leukopenia are acute virus infection, HIV, Hepatitis B and C, some bacterial infection, Vitamin b12 deficiency and medications. Maybe nothing: The upper range of "normal" is about 10,000. Being slightly up is not really a big deal. White blood counts rise in the face of an infection or inflammation. It's your body's immune system doing its job. You may be fighting off a viral infection, or it may be "normal" for you. Why was it done? ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Why is my white blood cell count always high my dr said some peoples are just high? Mine have been for a year
Doc may be right...: Many people run a chronically mildly elevated WBC that remains normal for them. But the operative words here are that it is mild (normal is 4-10, 000) such as 11 or 12, 000; that it is repetitive and does not keep rising; and that there is a full evaluation of the type of WBC present. I would recommend a hematology consultation before presuming this is normal. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
My white blood cell count was 1.6. Should I be very concerned about this and am I at risk of getting sick?
Low: This is rather low. It would help to have either your neutrophil percentage or absolute neutrophil count as this will tell if this is a more urgently concerning problem like neutropenia where you really could be at risk for an infection. Make sure you follow up closely with your doctor in regards to this. If your neutrophil counts are really low you may need to avoid salads and fresh fruit. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
My white blood cell count has been between 12.4 to 15.7 over the last five years and no one has addressed this problem what could cause this?
Have you asked?: My first question to you is "Have you asked your doctor?" and, if so, have you asked "Is this a problem"?" My best advice is to ask your doctor these questions. If your WBC count has remained stable for 5 years and you don't have any progressive symptoms, there's an excellent chance that the problem hasn't been addressed simply because there isn't a problem. That certainly is my hope for you! ...Read more
Depends : It all depends on the cause and the degree of the decease in wbc. Some ethnic groups tend to have mildly lower WBC at all time and that is normal. However, you doctor should search for alternative causes before assuming so. Medication and autoimmune diseases are common causes of low wbc. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
