I was prescribed 150 mg of levothyroxine for the last month (after total levothyroxine & RAI treatment), my TSH level are 0.091, is that high or low?

Thyroid cancer: Hi. From your history, I must assume you had papillary or follicular thyroid cancer. Please confirm. It makes a huge difference. Your TSH is low (suppressed), as it SHOULD be for maintenance after surgery and RAI for differentiated thyroid cancer. We need much more information than you gave us. Good luck! ...Read more

Tsh level is 5.69 is that high?

A little: It depends on the lab but that is just a bit elevated. Generally a lab test called free T4 is done when this borderline. If the free t 4 is low that would confirm that you are hypothyroid. When the numbers are borderline often down the road they will become frankly abnormal. If there are symptoms such as fatigue and weight gain then I would be more inclined to treat sooner then later. ...Read more

What to do if I recently found that my TSH level is high. Need guidance.?

Easily treated: An elevated frequently means that your thyroid gland is not making enough thyroid hormone. This is called Hypothyroidism. Thyroid Stimulating Hormone (TSH) rises in an attempt to signal your Thyroid gland to make more thyroid hormone.

You may want to have it checked again to be sure. But Hypothyroidsism is easily treated with medication. ...Read more

What is a dangerously high TSH level?

What is a dangerously high TSH level?

Hypothyroidism: The actual thyroid hormone is T4 and t3 (liothyronine). When they are low, TSH elevates, but how high is somewhat variable, and "high tsh" per se is not dangerous. A low t4/t3 (liothyronine) can be dangerous; TSH is a good marker of thyroid function, but often it is necessary to measure ft4 or t3 (liothyronine). A mild elevation of TSH (eg. 4-10) is often without any symptoms and a normal ft4. ...Read more

What is considered a high TSH level?

What is considered a high TSH level?

Above 4.5: In most labs, a value above 4.5 is high. However, symptoms related to low thyroid correlate much better with free T4 levels, rather than tsh. There are many people with elevated tsh, normal free t4, who feel perfectly normal (subclinical hypothyroidism). Persistently high TSH levels is indicative of a failing thyroid. ...Read more

My tsh level is 178 - is this dangerously high. T4 is 7.9 I believe?

Hypothyroid: It would be helpful to know what units those test results are. TSH is typically measured as mIU/L or micro IU/ml, with normal ranges up to 4.5. Total T4 is typically measured as micrograms/dl with normal ranges of 4.5-12, but can also be measured as nmol/L with normal ranges of 60-160. The TSH appears to be out of proportion to the T4 level, but you should be taking thyroid hormone. ...Read more

My TSH level is low 0.43 what does this mean exactly?

More workup: Currently, it points to hyperthyroidism but you need to complete the work up to know for sure. At the very least, I would repeat the TSH along with the free hormones T4 and t3 (liothyronine). If they also point to hyperthyroidism, then proceed further to find the exact cause for this. Tsh alone does not give you a complete picture. ...Read more

What does a low TSH level mean?

Need to look at T3 (liothyronine): And free t4. Low tsh, depending on the sensitivity of the assay, indicates thyroid hyper-function. However, the suspected hyperthyroidism needs to be confirmed with high levels of T3 (liothyronine) and free t4.
