I suffer from heart palpitations every now and then, have chronic constipation. Are they related? What can I do to get rid of heart palpitations?

Probably not: The two problems are probably not related. In young healthy people, heart palpitations are most often caused by early heartbeats, or premature ventricular contractions, which are often brought on by stress or caffeine. If they continue for several minutes or happen more frequently, though, you should see a doctor to have a heart tracing or ekg done, to be sure it is nothing more serious. ...Read more

Tried everything to get rid of huge stomach due to chronic constipation doesn't work, last chance is a colon hydrotherapy is it worth it?

Belly bloating: There are lots of reasons for abdominal distension ; bloating ; not all of them are due to the GI tract. Even "functional" syndromes may be present without underlying "disease." however psbo (paralyzed gut) due to metabolic ; inflammatory conditions nearby (like an untreated infection of the urinary tract)must be considered ; addressed. Hydrotherapy addresses none of these. Get evaluated first pls. ...Read more

Please tell me, could belive me it is possible to get ileostomy surgery for chronic constipation in which all of other treatment doesn't help?

Please tell me, could belive me it is possible to get ileostomy surgery for chronic constipation in which all of other treatment doesn't help?

Yes, but...: That would be a truly last ditch effort to treat an otherwise benign problem. In addition to the potential complications of the operation itself, the side effects and possible future complications are significant, and changes one's lifestyle forever. Seeing an experienced surgeon can help with options. If you've already seen one, go see another. ...Read more

Evaluation needed...: Before you contemplate long term laxative dependency, seek medical evaluation--rule out metabolic causes of constipation (e.g. Low thyroid or adrenal conditions), distinguish slow versus normal transit constipation, consider a primary rectal dysfunction that may be treatable with biofeedback, check for structural pathology or extrinsic impingement, or intermittent ileus (e.g. Pseudo-obstruction). ...Read more

Chronic constipation. I eat less. If I eat more then I gain weight. I do very average physical activity.?

Fibers and fluids: Benefiber, metamucil, fibercon are all effective and safe. Increase fluids and keep active. Roughages such as fresh/leafy veggies and fruits are healthy and will help constipation as well. Mineral oil can also be used because it is not absorbed. Keep active and drink plenty of fluid regularly. Hypothyroidism can cause constipation, and many medications do too, so consult doc for eval. Good luck. ...Read more

What are some drug free relief medicines for chronic constipation? I don't want to live with laxatives. I eat very healthy. 31 years old female

Start simple, but...: Docusate (per PDR) helps moisten &soften hard, dry stools. It is not a true laxative, but facilitates natural defecation, usually within 12 to 72 hours. This is safe &available for anyone over 2, &assumes normal GI anatomy without inflammation, stenosis, extrinsic or instrinsic obstruction. Please note that change in bowels is a "red flag", like weight loss or blood in stool, that needs evaluation ...Read more

I have chronic constipation is there anything that I can take that will let me have a bm everyday. I already eat and drink healthy but I need somethin?

Many things: Stay hydrated, remain active. Consider adding a fiber supplement like psyllium or methylcellulose. Othewise you could try a surfactant like Colace (though this is a weak option). Minimize Percocet use. If all that doesn't help, you could consider adding a stimulant laxative like senna. The next step may be an osmotic laxative like Miralax (polyethylene glycol). ...Read more

Talk w/ the provider: I would definitely talk to the doctor who did your procedure about how to deal with this and how to prevent future constipation. Eat your fiber: Lots of water and fiber are requirements for evryone. If you tend to be constipated then you need more fiber. You masy need to add more metamucil but must also add it to your diet. I also recommend an evaluation by your physician and you may need a colonoscopy or other colon screening as well. ...Read more

27/f constipation no family of colon ca had chronic constipation colonoscopy done showed sessile serrated adenoma so scared! Why? Am I going to get ca

Not anymore: Polyps are benign if removed early like you have done. Only if you neglect them and let them grow, they can change into cancer. You should be fine, but your doctor would likely advise you to have repeat colonoscopy every 5 years or at least every 10 years because there is small risk of developing new polyps. But there is no reason to worry about cancer as long as you are having colonoscopy as advi. ...Read more
