Shooting Knee Pain: "shooting" knee pain can come from: arthritis. Torn meniscus. Trauma to the knee cap. A bursitis around the knee (pes anserine). Trapping of a little fold of the joint lining in the joint crease. Of these i think the most likely cause of a transient "shooting" pain would be a torn, or partially torn, meniscus (cartilage).
