Need more info: Pain in top of thigh can be L2, L3, or L4 nerve root. If you had surgery for any of those nerves, continued compression may be the reason for this pain. You need to have your surgeon work you up for this. If your surgery did not involve these nerves, then you may be experiencing lateral femoral cutaneous nerve injury that can occur from laying on your belly for long periods of time. ...Read more

This pain: sounds like RADICULAR pain , that is pain from a PINCHED NERVE in your BACK (At the L4-5 or L5-S1 levels) TRY APPLYING HEAT (MOIST HEAT BEST) on your lower back (at the level of your HIPS) and lie down on a relatively FIRM surface! It may be a specific: Type of disc herniation that is located at the point where the nerve exits the spine and when lying down on your back or stomach the nerve exit hole or foramen is narrowed so if a disc is present there it will further compress the nerve. You may need further work up, physical exam /mri of your lumbar spine. Treatment depends on the cause but generally anti inflammatory medication, physical therapy, possibly epidural steroid injections.
