Need more info: Pain in top of thigh can be L2, L3, or L4 nerve root. If you had surgery for any of those nerves, continued compression may be the reason for this pain. You need to have your surgeon work you up for this. It may be a specific: Type of disc herniation that is located at the point where the nerve exits the spine and when lying down on your back or stomach the nerve exit hole or foramen is narrowed so if a disc is present there it will further compress the nerve.
