What Should I Do If My Baby Keeps Coughing Up Lots Of Mucus
Make an appt.: Mucous production can be normal in a newborn for a few days. In older children, it can signal other issues like allergies, asthma, etc. Diagnosis also varies based on age. Many children on milk based formulas or older children who drink a lot of milk may see improvement by going off dairy. This issue is best answered with a visit with your pediatrician. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Suporrtive care: As long as the child is eating well, staying pink and does not have a fever (rectal temp of 101 or under the arm 100), then salt water up the nose (ayr, nasalide, ocean nose drops) will help. Generally we recommend these babies be seen even if it seems like just a cold...Because of the age. Your doctor may also want to test for a virus called rsv. Continue feeding normally... ...Read more
See Doctor Now: Your infant's age is unknown. Similasan is a homeopathic drug therefore its safety, effectiveness & side-effect profile are unconfirmed which makes this an unacceptable choice for any infant. Is there anything i can give my 7 month old baby so she can spit mucus out thats making her cough?
This sucks: If you find any way to teach a 7 month old to "spit", you'll win a nobel prize in medicine. They cannot nor can they be taught to do that at that tender age. You have to suck it out for them. If they cough and/or gag on mucous and you can hear it in the back of their throats or in their mouths, take the bulb syringe for nose sucking and use it in mouth & throat. This will clear the secretions. ...Read more

Can ventolin syrup be given to baby with a bad cough and phlemy chest there is no asthma will it help him to bring up his mucus?
Would not recommend: Cough and cold medicines have been shown to be not be effective for babies or toddlers and can sometime cause side effects. Saline nose spray can help relieve nasal congestion and humification can also be sometimes be useful. If any signs of difficulty breathing or feeding, the child needs to be seen by a health care provider. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers

Need more info: What you describe sounds like she is coughing so hard that she has what is called "peticheae" (tiny bleeds into skin) on her forehead. It needs to be evaluated by your doctor right away. Pertussis infection comes to mind, which would be concerning at her age. Seek medical attention and/or go to er. If she is breathing heavy, is not feeding well or "looks sick" you should go to er tonight. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
