What causes rashes/hives?

What causes rashes/hives?

Immune system alert: For some reason (often it is mysterious even with best efforts to identify the agent) some people's immune systems go into an emergency alert mode and send out defensive weapons to protect you from what it feels as a threat. Unfortunately, it usually is an over-reaction and causes more problems for you. If your dr agrees - a daily benedryl may help. Be ready with an epi-pin & 911 for emergency! ...Read more

Please help! i keep getting hives/rashes during the middle of the night?

Chronic urticaria: 'Keep' is the operative word here. Is the duration now 4-6 weeks? If so, you have chronic hives, and the issues change from finding a 'cause' (unusual for chronic hives) to treament. Various antihistamines, steroids (prednisone) have been used for decades. Exciting new treatment is once a month Xolair. It has been helpful in giving relief and avoiding long term steroids. Find an allergist nearby. ...Read more

Hives: Hives (urticaria) is common and sometimes you may never find the cause. Causes can be food allergies, medications, problems w your liver, infections inside the body (hepatitis, hiv, ect), or no reason is found. Best to get blood work to try to find these possible causes and treat accordingly. If nothing is found, a simple nightly dose of Atarax (hydroxyzine) (sedating) 25mg would help. ...Read more

My 3yr old has been getting up to 104 fevers, rashes, and hives, what's going on?

Hard to tell: Proper assessment will require some history, an exam & possibly lab work. This could be as simple as a transient virus or a more worrisome auto-immune disorder. I would have this evaluated by the child's physician when you can arrange it. If the kid is taking fluids well & playful at least part of the time it can wait until office hours. If the kid is not, start with an urgent care center. ...Read more

What is immune system? And how it relates to rashes, itching, sores, hives.....

Control: You may view the immune system as the police commissioner who oversees the city's defense against invaders. When someone causes trouble, you may find multiple and variable responses. We need the immune system to defend against outside invaders (bacteria, virus, worms) and inside traitors (cancer, autoimmune disease). Diseases often occur when the immune system fails. ...Read more

Plan b one step pill and hives related? I took the Plan B pill 2 almost 3 weeks ago and I've started to get hives or rashes on my stomach, arms, legs, back and neck. It weird because i had no other side effects. But i was wondering if it could be related

The : The odds of you having an allergic reaction from a Plan B taken three weeks ago are highly unlikely. Even if this was the case, there is no treatment aside from over the counter Benadryl (diphenhydramine) for itching. Consider other potential allergens like new products, lotions, or soaps.

Began suffering from hives, and can a new watchband cause this, even though the rashes are not on the watch arm, but the legs and trunk?

Watchband reactions: Reactions to watchbands tend to be related to the presence of nickel in the band. Hives: illness or allergic reactions can both cause rashes in children. Since she is on amoxicillin, it very likely is an allergic reaction to the medication. I would stop the medication and give her benedryl. You should contact your daughter's pediatrician to see if they want to change medications or want to see her first. ...Read more
