I have lupus and have had the shingles twice in 4 years. Are there any precautions I can take to prevent?
Zoster or simplex: You should see a doctor and confirm if you have shingles(herpes zoster) or a fever blister(herpes simplex). If you have had shingles it is unlikely it will continue to recur. My blood has lupus anticoagulant ...I am on blood thinners too ...previously had a clot too 3 years ago.. is there anything I should do as precautions. ..please advise?
Carry on: Lupus anticoagulant has a misleading name. Most people who have it don't have lupus, and it is more often associated with excessive clotting than insufficient clotting. It sounds like you're under a doctor's care now, and for some reason are on long-term anticoagulant therapy. Take the medication : Plaquenil ( hydroxychloroquin) is the first line therapy for sle. Unless specific problems dictate otherwise it is normally recommended for life, in every stage of sle, as mono therapy ( by itself) or if needed as part of a treatment program using other medications. Even if you are feeling well, the Hydroxychloroquine reduces your risk of renal disease, thrombolic events, the number of lupus flares.
